i was wondering if most buy 100% feminized seeds and are they really 100%. what happens if one turns into a male and switch all your females over. is there a guarantee that they are all females??? or does most just but what strain they want and wait and see what happens?

Ive been wondering this for a while and thought id ask. i usually use clones (cheater) but id like to get some different strains going and was looking into seeds.

Thanks

Personal experience: 5 fem Snow White & 5 fem Pure Power Plant (both Nirvana). 9/10 germed, all females, no hermies. I'm sure others have their own experiences, but this if my successful albeit limited experience.

Just to clarify they are feminized, not female. You said feminized but I just wanted to draw the distinction between the two words.

Feminized means they have the RNA from two females instead of from a male and a female so the plant is predisposed to being female.

But no, they are not 100% sure of being female.

ok that clears it up a bit. so is it worth buying feminized?? and if they arnt guarnteed to be female, why would one buy them?

Mostly because they do work the vast majority of the time.

The breeders have had time to learn what strains work and which don't so they've gotten much better at it. Since feminized seeds, on average, cost twice as much as normal seeds it does seem about a wash to me. I guess it all depends on your past luck too.

I'm actually thinking about getting two packs of 5 female seeds just so I don't have to fuck around with twice as many plants, twice as much soil, etc.

makes sense... even if the feminalized cost more, you'll cut cost in soil and what like you mentioned, knowing they should be females.

The thing about feminized seeds is that they have a higher tendency to show hermpahroditism than a regular batch of seeds that your lucky enough to get some females out of them. If your growing techniques involve little amounts of stress then feminized seeds are the way to go because you are not inflicting the stress that would cause morphism.

Good point Cali. I didn't think about the stress and hermaphroditism. I like to stress the hell out of my plants using pinching to slow vertical growth so it's probably NOT a good idea for me to get female seeds. Doh!

Good pts, thanks for the info. ill check both types out, i dont stress my plants that much, the only stress would be transplanting.
