Curious about this... Ive heard of loosening up a little, but I have always tried not to disturb them. Do you, literally, just slice through the roots? Is that what you mean by root ring? Or maybe misinterpreted completely...

Hi how are you, Yes you interpreted properly, roots are only delicate in the first stages of life, once your in a 1 gallon pot and almost root bound, you can totally either cut off the bottom inch of roots(usually on moms that your holding for long periods of time) anyway yes when I up pot my plants, I cut from bottom to top about 3-4", just a slice in three spots around the root ball, plant as you normally would, water in a little from the top but mostly from the bottom, let them soak up a good amount of food and they love it. I did it to these a week and a half ago, didn't miss a beat. I have been doing it like this for 15 years now my wife learned me, she use to run a greenhouse, you should see how we treat Hostas when we divide them. One lady freaked out when we pulled the plant out of the pot chopped it in half and said here LOL. IMG_20161004_140834.jpg

Im very well.. hope the same for you! Thanks for info. Im going to give this a try when I up pot next. And also good to know on taming the moms (as Im just getting to keeping them). Thanks very much for your time and info!

Interesting info! Thank you.
The roots on mine aren't growing out but I can see them here and there through the drains. The plants are still small and I honestly didn't think this was going to be needed this soon.

I pulled one out to check and there are just a few roots at the bottom. Like nothing where I'd say if has to be done right now. But I'm sure by end of the coming week. Then again, I might just do it already regardless

Heard of cutting root rings before, I always once placing root ball into new pot place it in kinda hard as to just break it up. Same sandwich different bread

Yeah you can totally not mess with them, but mine get root bound before up potting, and I always found the roots find the new dirt and food faster when I cut them like I said earlier. Just a preference thing, plus too I go from round 1 gallon pots to 3 gallon trash cans cause they are much taller than 3 gallon pots and my roots can go deep. Peace, be safe MD.

Yeah it happens that way lol, I have it happen all the time, like the other night I was checking clones, I swear the night before there were none, turn around and roots shit time to pot lol. Have a good one, Peace, be safe MD.

Just in case, I prepped my ,next size up, pots. Probably Sunday or Monday I will move them over.

What you said about cutting the root ring... I remember seeing this being done in gardening. If I remember right they cut some of the old dead rooting off and it didn't hurt the plant one bid. Opposite happened actually cos the plant got rid off the old more or less dead shit.


And I really like the trash can idea!

Freshly transplanted with a shot of kelp and grow big. I like how tight they're growing. Don't really know if that's normal tho, since I never see any seedlings from the side. In relation, they're about 4" tall.IMG_0987.JPG

Now that two days after the transplant have passed, I see each one having a yellowing leaf at the bottom. Sad part is, i can't say for sure yet since I'm color blind and need to wait for the lights to come on again to bother them. All three girls are reaching end of seedling stage and maybe I should've waited to up pot. I also realized I bought the "wrong" soil. I got the pro mix veg and herb. Oh well, too late on that end. Better pay attention to this next time.

I used the promix ultimate ,veg and herb.I used it outdoors and had good luck,a little calcium problem late in flower,nothing major.

I gave them a feeding with big bloom yesterday when the lights came on. And checked those leafs. It's definately turning yellow but didn't get worse. The plants actually do look happy with the leafs all perked up to the light. They also grew noticeably, so I guess I'll continue what I'm doing.
Live and learn...hopefully not at the expense of the girls.

One big question remains now tho. So far the girls have only seen big bloom and kelp. Should I go with GH hydro maxi or the FF soil trio considering I don't use bx or hp soil. I'm not sure what's more beneficial in this soil

I use Promix HP with microrizea in it for my soil, the plants really like it, lots of drainage and benifitials. I used to use maxi grow an bloom but didnt feel the plants were getting enough, so I now am using Jack's Classic 20-20-20 in veg. Maxsea seaweed based Bloom food is a 3-20-20, with molassas 2Tbl per gallon, and 10 ml cal mag in flower. Dont forget the first leaves near the soil are water leaves they will yellow up and fall off as the plant grows, I usually wait until I am re potting to 3 gallons to clean all that up. You're right, plenty info here. Only thing is that for a noob, a lot is confusing because what's good for one might not be for the next. Like for example have I read about watering before transplanting, where articles totally contradicted one another. That's where I just switch to "learn by doing" mode.
