SATIVA DOMINANT GROWERS F.O.B

Although i am new to the online thing and for the most part kinda noobish to the sativa scene, I'd like to see/learn from some of the folks online that have been successful with their sativa grows both inside and outside. I myself have my eyes on punta rojo, mangobiche, and maybe a colombian landracey or as close to undisturbed colombian as we can get nowadays so i can spend the next 10-20 yrs trying to have fun with them! It would be nice to gain some perspective and insight from those here with experiance and insight to give. Please and thankyou!

Ive grown my share of sativas... my top five that i have grown would have to be

5. GH hawaiian snow
4. Sannies jack
3. Top dawg sour african (13 week malawi leaning pheno)
2. Doc d bandaid haze x Cuban black haze
1. Serious seeds kali mist

Actually i would have to give numbers 2 and 3 a tie for second place.

there is a difference between long flower sativas and hybrids..hybrids are good and easier to grow..long flower are hard to grow ..finicky indoors..genetically unstable..that said imho there..is something about a good long flower sativa that cannot be duplicated by a hybrid with an indica..

I breed Sativa Dom Hybrids and have grown many Land Race Sat's, I have a Dalat (Vietnam Land Race) in week 19 of flower currently. It is very true that they are very finicky, none that I have grown like nutes so if you are a heavy feeder you will need to learn to back way off. And there are several tricks for kepin em under control in an indoor grow,,,,

use small pots so they get root bound, the Dalat is 4 foot tall in a 1 gallon pot

use the Gas Lantern Routine for veg with deep blue light

Use lower light timing like 10/14 instead of 12/12, I use 10:30/13:30

Use a more blue than red spectrum to flower

here's the advice ive been given so far..........
My experience with true western hemisphere sativa landraces is that tend to grow really tall, they bloom late to really really late, and they tend to have long skinny colas. My Colombians and North Mexican strains started to bloom for me in late October outdoors in central California and southern Oregon. They would have finished in late December or even January, as they have a long bloom time. My 'early' south Mexican sativas tend to start blooming here in Oregon (near the 45th parallel) around September 10, and finish at the end of October. You can fool them into blooming earlier, but they will still tend to be tall, straggly, and have long thin colas and take longer to finish.

True landraces are also hit and miss for taste and character. I have a Oaxaca strain that is so minty that I cannot smoke it. I thought it was picking up the mint flavor from the other plants in the greenhouse, but that was not the case. Oaxacan strains are commonly minty in flavor. If you want true dialed in flavor and growing traits, I would suggest one of the early heirloom strains. True Mexican landrace strains were mostly made extinct after the paraquat spraying by our illustrious and evil President Nixon of the past. They have since also been tainted with crosses with autoflowering ruderalis strains, and more compact indicas. I have heard that the same thing has happened in Colombia, though I would bet that there are true landraces still to be gotten in the rural Colombia regions. But as I said above, they bloom so very very late.

So ive been anxious to get my mangobiche and punta rojo off the ground because well im anticipating 12-16 weeks, trying to be "open minded" now that i have my hands FULL! Good thing i asked because rootbounding plants intentionally is a diff tactic than normal for me but makes sense!

I was actually thinking or two diff scenarios.
1. where i use 2-3 600 kooltubes so i can get the canopy well close to the bulbs proper, then use 6400-10,000 t-5 as supplimentals on the sides so the lower mid range canopy dosnt languish behind the tops.
Do these varietals require a diff soil mix than say a reg hybrid grow would?

I grow in peat, so I control what nutes they get, if I was to use soil it would not be fresh as that would be too strong for most land races

The internodes can be as much as 2 feet even with the lights close

Needs to be ALL natural Clay with no scents added which is Calcined Clay (same as hydroton balls) you can also use Turface but it cost more. My mix is based on Al Tapla's Gritty Mix

I've grown Punta Rojo indoor last year & few other high sativa dom's. I just keep them in small pots & they never got taller than 3 ft. I also treat them rough & stem pinch them down especially during the stretch.

Sativas can be nute sensitive but I'm doing the organic thing so the plants take what they need for most part.

I've tried a lot of sativas. Peakseedsbc has a Sweet Skunk that is the best I can find, it's damn near perfect for my liking. He also has Sweet Skunk x C99 which is also very good, you have to ask for it, it's not on the website. Both are beautiful plants to grow, practical for indoors.
