My plants in a box, round 3

here we are at day 33 of flower, and 70 days from seed.

Crazy how that tea works, i'll have a moderately steady ppm drop, say ~10ppm over a day... I'll add a little tea, and the next day itll be down 20-30ppm... Itll settle for a day or two untill i add more tea, which is usually every 3-4 days... Same thing right after a res change, when i add all that tea, the plants really suck it up for the first few days.

Ive been keeping the lights a bit close the last week or so, starting to show the stress on a few directly below the cobs...Temps at the canopy are 78* on avg. They get in the 80's when i dont have a chance to turn my fan up a notch.

Well its been pretty much on cruise the last few weeks... I hadn’t done a complete reservoir change in quite awhile, I was just adding back when needed, along with the compost tea. Well last night I noticed a ton of air bubbles foaming at the top, and figured it was about time to give it a cleaning. There was a pretty thick, clear snot/slime on the outside of the tubes, but the reservoir was fairly clear considering how long its gone. Anyway, cleaned everything up, mixed up a fresh batch, and off we go. Probably just going to scale back, or add only fresh water from here on out. Looking to cut these down in the next 2-3 weeks i think.

I let things get a little bushy on the lower branches, I should have pruned more sooner but I gave em a shot... I still have some pretty decent size tops, but it got kinda thick and crowded in the middle. But im still getting good light penetration down to them nonetheless...

So this one just flew by on me... chopped em down this past weekend. Doing things a bit differently this time around, im going to trim them dry... I never realized there was quite the fuss between dry vs wet trimming... temps and humidity are optimal right now, we aren’t in the heat of summer, and its still dry enough that the dehumidifier doesn’t have to run much (which also makes things hotter) its hovering btw 70-75* and 55-60% Rh. I always thought my buds were drying out too fast when hanging them, and didn't realize that the wet trimming might have something to do with it? Ive allready noticed, at 3 days of drying, the buds are just now starting to get remotely dry on they outside, and the leafs still feel kinda damp. Going to try to let these hang till friday, and start trimming them, but it could come sooner?

Im pretty anxious to see how i did in quantity, it looks on par with my last harvest i think... and the buds looks pretty awesome too :)

Good job dude! I've wondered about the wet vs dry trimming as well. But one thing I don't understand is what to do with the trim after it's dry. From what I've read during the curing process the THC breaks down and becomes psychoactive, is that true? anyways cured bud is stronger and better than uncured bud, but I never see anybody curing their trim or anything

Thanks Dude!!
well with trim, you can activate it by decarbing the trim in an oven. So i dont think there is any real need to cure it, other than just letting it dry out. My last run i trimmed wet and just stuck all my trim in a container in the freezer (mainly because i didnt have anywhere to dry it out first) It worked fine, i just took it out of the freezer, and stuck it in the oven for about 20-30 min. But since it was frozen i wasnt able to get a proper weight to even guess how my butter was going to turn out.
There has never been any real science to my oil making, i just say, 'well thats alot of trim, ill do 4 sticks of butter', or 'thats not very much trim so ill just use 1/2 cup of coconut oil' lol... I found some numbers for using trim in making butter/oil, and i just want to see how that turns out.

so heres my process:
-i take a large cookie sheet, and line it with parchment paper.
-begin trimming over the cookie sheet, and just pile it up. I wont have to transfer the material at all.
-I let it sit in the same room im drying my buds, and just turn the trim every day untill its pretty crispy.
-when im ready to decarb, the trim is nice and crispy, so i just crumple it up with my herb roller/chopper thingy... 31vWmVRLRuL._SX300_.jpg i randomly picked one up years ago, and it never worked well because my trim was all wet, but once it drys out, this thing works awesome... no need to get it really fine or anything, and i still havent had to transfer the material...
- then ill stick the cookie sheet in the oven at about 220* for a period of time, then its onto the butter/oil process...

DAAAANG MAN !!!!!
WoW those nugs look so tasty. Good Job. let us know the final weight....

I left a lot of the sugar leaves on the nugs.
They are really covered in trichomes and reportedly have a higher THC content than the nug.
I break off the bigger ones as I am retrieving a nug from the jar and let some accumulate, they roll a nice joint !

ended up with just under 6oz, something like 5.8. Which was just an ounce less than my last run with 3 plants. Im pleased, the smell is much more prominent this time around, each cure has gotten better than the last as i figure things out, lol. I let em hang for 6 days, dropped em in the jar right above 55% rH and they rose up to around 61-62%, so i think i caught it perfectly... got a bunch of good trim, probably going to end up with just under 3 cups of coconut oil from it all.

i could have gotten a lot more if i managed the canopy better, i knew it was going to be an issue, and both plants seemed to be a bit more leafy than previous grows... by the time all the buds spreaded out, there was just too much growth blocking light... ive got plans for next round lol, finally going to do some topping i guess :)

Great job! Could your box supported all 4 babies? What size box? Homemade? Manufacturers?

What's size of your box? Want to get box would like 6 to 8 oz a grow
Off the top of my head, I don't know. I think it's 21 inches tall, and 19 inches long.

As far as an amount goes, you'd want to get a bigger cab rather than a PC tower. I'm aiming for an ounce and even that isn't promised. I'm sure if I got like a heavy producing strain but even that I couldn't see it producing more than 2 oz. but that's just my opinion

Finally got a chance to stop back in... I acquired some new lights... I actually helped a friend build these lights for his tent. He is taking some time off and gave them to me for now.

So I finally get to try some cxb leds... it's probably a bit much for this box to say the least. I'll either have to use a dimmer or just use 3 of the leds. We used 1 meanwell hlg 120 for 3 cxb 3500k. I also still have my cxa setup, which was one driver per led. So I may use some combo of the two, still getting my plan together.
I've had great success with the cxa setup... but when your given 6 cxbs, you try to make it work. Lol. I could definitely benefit from better light in the corners. My thinking was this layout would provide better light to all areas. Which is why I'm hoping I can just dim them slightly and maybe reduce the heat output.

Anyway, I've kept the box running non stop now. I managed to pull just under 8 oz from the grow before last. And experimented with cloning on this last one. My buddy cloned a few of his, which I took and went straight to flower(well I veged them for a week or so) That was some pretty nice turn around, i was ready to harvest again essentially 2 months after the previous. We just used a bag seed strain, which was less than stellar product. But we did it just to gain experience from the process...

HAHAH, awesome to see you respond. I took a quick glance down the main page to see if i saw familiar posts. I caught the end of fishdeths thread after he left, that took a very surprising turn! Really smart dude, Ive never looked at a refrigerator the same.

I ran my box thru the summer and had very little time to tend to it, to be honest it didnt really need much input at all. I decided to see how lazy i could get with reservoir changes, I just topped it off when needed, never drained it, never cleaned it. I got lazy with brewing the tea too LOL....
I was surprised, the water was clean and no funky smell, ph and ppms were inline, so i ran with it.

but i finally got some feminized beans again, and more spare time thru the winter to see what i can do.
