minimum room height

What is a reasonable lowest Room height? For HPS, T5 and COP LED? Perhaps possible make 2 floors in same Room where only 1 floor possible with HPS? E.g. Shelves to double total floor area? Especially for veg that should not be a problem.

Need to be a little more detailed, but when it comes to hps and the heat.. As long as you have a nice ac unit on the room(meaning your tops stay on stable temps) you can get them pretty close to the light, now the time that you veg for plays a huge role just as the strain you're growing! But yea lots of things matter when it comes to room/tent/closet/greenhouse/cabinet height!

^ this guy hit the nail on the head.

Basically, are you thinking indica or sativa?
Because ive seen plants 2ft tall & others 7ft tall.
Are you vegging?
What size of light?
Big difference between a 250w hps & a 1000w hps.

What height do you have to work with op?

Forget about shelving, it's a grow room not a library.

Yes, I am aware that more detail is needed, but I am just in a planning stage to design and later build a room. The question should be possible to answer roughly. most easily by ignoring total room height, because that depends on many things as you say, e.g. strain, tables, and so on. and just focus on what the post address. the difference in height requirements between different type of lights. HPS take more space (bigger bulbs) and produce more heat. COB LED are small, produce little heat. how much difference will that be in height requirements? (I will not grow 7ft for sure, rather Indica SOG 3 ft ?).

I am thinking Indica sog with vegging. 600 W HPS or COB LED. Height is not fixed until I build the room. I find shelving to be a great idea for veg. with T5 or COB LED. why not?

I currently use a 600w hps along with two 400w hps.

First off, you'll either need an intake or an exhaust to deal with the heat build up.
If you go with a cob you'll obvousily spend more but the heat won't be as much of an issue.

Ok, fair point. But the point is for them all to get light, if they're on shelves, will each shelf have its own light?

What are the dimensions of your grow room/tent?

Hps - around 12-16 inches away.
Cob - depends how hard your running them, closer than a hps though.
LED - an led could almost touch the plants, as long as they aren't getting too hot.

I am planning for a closed grow room with AC.
It will be decent size room, maybe 20 m2.
Yes, light on each shelf for sure. that is a must.

including the space needed for the bulb etc. I guess you save at least 20 inches (0.5 meter) with LED instead of HPS?

With ac controlling your temp you could run whatever light you want.
You could probably use t5 lights for the shelving then?

No, no. You'd want your light closer than 20inches.
Basically you want your light as close to your plants as possible, without burning them.
What I mean is, your bulb itself (if it's mh/hps) (not the lighting fixture) pretty much 12-16 inches from the tops.

Plus, the further away your light is, the less par from the lights & it could cause stretching.

Sorry, I took you up wrong there.

Yeah, that's why so many went for LED, so they could have them as close as they wanted, but cob lights are doing a better job.
Watt for watt, they're better than hid's.

Whatever you choose, make sure you go for good lighting.
All growing starts with the lights, that's why most guys here invest big money into their lights.
