I'm looking for a soil they sell nearby that I can pick up. I guess u could call it a commercial potting soil. Idc if it's organic or not. But I'm afraid of getting something that feeds for six months like miracle grow soil. I'm worried it won't get enough potassium and phosphorus during flowering. Tips, suggestions? Thanks!

Foxfarm doesn't feed nutrients for six months. I use it, You can start nutrients after roughly 4 weeks safely. You will need to use CalMag beginning 3-4 weeks to the end of your grow as well. I mix my Fox Farm Ocean Forest with 1/3 Lite Warrior, extra perlite and vermiculite. It works just fine. Be careful adding additional nutrients though.

Yea I kno. I used to use ffof with their liquid nutes. But I'm not gonna spend an arm and a leg getting ff. I'm looking for an alternative . I'm thinking of using regular long feeding, mix with perlite and just water. But again, I don't know if an all purpose soil will do okay during budding.

Organic soil isn't perfect and it's normal to make adjustments on-the-fly using nutrient teas or top dressings. But if the soil is too hot, you're in for a world of hurt.

I don't know how much it cost where you are but the FFOF here I get it at the nursery for $14 a bag. The 1.5cu ft bag. If you get your FFOF and mix in the happy frog fruit and flower dry fert to prep from the get go you will have nothing to do but add water in veg and probably a week or so in flower. The package has directions for continued top dress when needed. This is about as good as it gets for the money.

Now depending where you live you might want to check out the build a soil website they have various pre made soils and amendments etc. But some instances the shipping can be killer. It all depends. I just recently mixed three batches of soil using peat moss compost cow manure worms happy frog dry fert oyster shell powder ewc and kelp powder with the mykos and then added my worms and cover crop seeds to the pots. No issues at all but if you don't need so much soil nothing beats a bag of ffof and the happy frog dry fert. Advice, the bag on Amazon with prime cost me the same as the local one at the nursery the caveat being the nursery bag is double the size. So pay attention to what you buy and where.

Ffof is 12 dollars per bag here, inst that cheap? You want something that costs less?
Everything I plant in ffof grows so big and beautiful,
Get those amendments from build a soil and sit back, water only , it's so easy
Only problem is you are smoking biowaste products :( FFOF has sewer sludge in it , that's why they lost their organic cert and are now calling it " Smart Natural " soil instead of organic like it used to be called.

This thread was never about being organic ,
true but why buy subpar soil when quality soil is easy to aquire, you said you buy products from build a soil why not just buy their mix that doesnt have gross stuff in it? I recommend this guy make his own mix, that's why i do, cheapest and most effective way to get exactly what you want. Bales of compressed peat are very inexpensive.

Already explained. For some like myself you can't beat the price and the quality from build a soil but shipping cost me as much as the soil does and that makes it not financially sound to buy. If you don't live in Colorado or I believe new Mexico then the shipping adds up quick

Build your own, build a soil got a recipe, bales of compressed peat are about 13$ for ~5.7 cubic feet. I live in colorado and make my own mix, it's the cheapest way. You can source most of the items you need from home depot for a fraction of the cost of a premade mix and much higher quality when all is said and done.

I do build my own. I was simply offering the op my opinion. Do you think someone complaining about ff for $12-$14 a bag is going to spend more on a different soil? Or go through the hassle of piecing his own together like we do? That's why I offered the info I did easiest and cheapest way to go water only with minimal top dress. Wasn't saying it's the cheapest way or best way or organic etc. Not everything is a fight bro.

Cheers

True, roots 707 is a cheap alternative, got fungus gnats though. When you go cheap you don't always get quality.

I didn't like the roots any of it. I got gnats with it too and I prefer the way the FF does with water vs the roots. I found the roots brand to dry out faster and need amending way sooner than just the straight FFOF. My last grow in soil before this one and in a SIP I only topped dressed the FFOF one time at the beginning of flower that was it. Water only the whole time as easy as it gets and especially as a new guy. I am back in soil now and this is the healthiest my plants have ever been. Loving the no till and learning about all the amendments etc. Got my own worm farm fresh worms and ewc right from home it's rolling now and I am.loving it. And using dechlorinated tap right now has kept my cal mag in check even under the COBs

:)
