Can I use any shape as a dwc resovoir?

Would my roots grow to fit any shape? Like a tall skinnier rectangle or a smaller flat one? Or even a spiral?

As long as there aren't any chambers or other areas where water could stagnate, you're good.

The bigger the better to a point. 1 big plant in a 50gal container is overkill but that same plant in a 5gal pail is a PITA to maintain.

I like my RubberMaid totes for 1 or many plants.

thinner and longer is usually preferred because it is easier to cover the surface area with bubbling water than with a shallow wide one

These ones. The shorter ones hold 35 liters with net pots in and the taller ones hold 50L. Lids are the same size so can switch to a taller one after vegging in the shorter ones.
