Oregon Rec. Grow

I started indoors and I think I did 4 indoor runs my first year, and of course just the one outside in the same time period. So the learning curve for outdoor seems longer, there are only so many mistakes I can make and learn from per grow cycle.

We have enough from this summer's outdoor to easily last over a year. That said, I don't have 100% confidence in my ability to store pot properly for a year, since we've never had enough to do that before its untested whether or not I can. We had bud rot and PM issues this fall, so as careful as I was inspecting the crop and drying and curing and keeping the lids tight, I'm a bit paranoid about counting on this crop to cover us until this time next year.

My first attempt at making hash this year was a fail, but I have plenty left in the freezer and will do better next run. The small chest freezer is full of fresh frozen, but if I get the process down I can also take some of our dried stash and make hash out of it. My understanding is that you can freeze hash, giving it a pretty long shelf life.

But since there are still lots of unknowns, and since I have all the equipment, as some back up insurance I'm running two small indoor tents for a winter indoor (just started the two runs this last weekend). I'm using it as an opportunity to run some Sativa's that I would not have time to finish outside, and test some of the seeds from my pollination experiments this summer, so we can taste them and see if we want to use them next summer.

So now I've gone from 3-4 indoor runs per year and one outdoor, to one of each.

If my situation was different I would try my hand at indoor. I do start my peppers and such indoors. It's just not an option as far as weed is concerned.

And as I get older, these long walks with a full pack are getting harder. It would be nice to walk into the next room to check on your grow, instead of a half mile each way.
 
not trying to be rude although my words probably are.

Why in the world are you wasting your time growing outdoors outside of a greenhouse. I could list a million reasons but i presume you will not listen to my advice and most here will mock my experience.
 
i would advise you invest in a about $50 greenhouse you can easily build from plastic and pvc. you will protect your plants and flowers from contaminates and elements. highly advised.

pro tip. plastic the floor too. triple layer if you can. so that way bugs cannot come up from ground.

if you want to be super pro run dwc in 55 gallon plastic drums halway burried in ground in greenhouse. Recycle your nutes using dwc to save a ton of money and the environ. pics soon.

GORILLA GRAPE how long dos it flower befor it is dun?I have grew donkey kong and its a very late finisher here in ky.I would not mind to try your G.G beans if it finishes befor donkey kong dos..ky

testing out the seeds i made this year from the male branches i pollinated indoors,Critical crossed with THC bomb,golden lei and lemon skunk.I must not have let the seeds dry enough 5 didn't pop.If any are good i will pop some seeds for a january greenhouse run.

I chopped most of my bag seed plant at 7 weeks, due to mold and worms. I cut the last of the popcorn at 9 weeks; big difference in color and frost. post #536. I don't know when Donkey Kong finished; my she was a he. Giving me the opportunity to make seeds, though, so I ain't complaining. But I don't know when DK would finish in comparison to GG.

We just took out the last big cola I saved from a late spring indoor run of GG#4, and compared it to bud from the clone I took from it and grew outdoors last summer. As usual, the indoor was frostier, denser, and people say a bit stronger high but that's not surprising since it was able to go as long as it needed (the outdoor plants were all taken down at their earliest possible time because of worms and mold/PM). It was also "prettier", with lots of orange hairs. The outdoor, as usual, tasted and smelled better. In general the outdoor produces quantity on a whole other scale, and can cost significantly less to grow... but that only works if I can keep them out there long enough to finish them. I'm finding that without a greenhouse, that's not really working for me.

If I build a serious greenhouse and run one outdoor group with light dep to have enough sun and season to grow Sativas and Sativa-dominant hybrids, then I would gladly give up the extra $$$ in electric bills it takes to run an annual indoor. That's actually some big "ifs", but it could happen. Until then I'll probably keep doing one winter indoor, and keep appreciating what it has to offer.
 
If anyone on the thread happens to be in central oregon I have some seedlings from breeders boutique that need to be given away, I can't grow indoors anymore until l can find a house with a cannabis friendly landlord. They are a few strains from breeders boutique, dog kush, fireballs, a freebie or two..
