This is getting poisonous enough to drive away people who want to talk issues and policy.

Like, for example, me.

I posted an article about this very subject, the Democrats and the working class, just a day or two ago. Its point was that the Democratic party has been trying to outdo the Republicans at attracting campaign money, instead of appealing to their base, and that base either stayed home or voted for Chump- for whatever reason.

Where the Democrats have all but elevated economic austerity to untouchable status, like the Republican party has historically positioned itself, there's no room in the conversation about other options, like helping unemployed workers get jobs.

There's a lot of unemployed Americans these days, some who are homeless, many more who are living a marginal existence and certainly aren't contributing to the continued prosperity of our nation. Why? I refuse to believe we suddenly got that lazy. No, the wealthy have sucked all the economic growth up and there's none left for the average Joe.

This is why I advocate for higher taxes on corporations and the wealthy, a higher minimum wage and the use of the government as the employer of last resort to deliberately support higher wages for everyone.

Our system is no longer acceptable, let alone reasonable or equitable. It's fraying at the edges and one can see the fabric of society starting to shred everywhere you look;

Military hardware in the hands of civilian police, BEING USED REGULARLY.

Food assistance and Medicaid for people who have jobs.

No meaningful system for caring for the inevitable fraction of society who are disabled, mentally ill, etc.

Open warfare on the streets of many areas across the country- yes, even Chicago.

The legalized abolishment and state sanctioned looting of pensions and retirements.

The state sanctioned destruction of unions, coupled with a mad media disinformation campaign to turn public opinion against their own labor representatives.

The organized, military style assaults on protest movements like Occupy Wall Street, compete with coordinated media disinformation campaigns and FBI infiltration and smear jobs.

The increasing occurrence and severity of 'falling down' events where someone just goes nuts and tries to kill as many people as possible before dying in a hail of bullets.

A Federal Government that has handed itself the power to violate the citizen's constitutional rights at will, for no reason.

Endless wars for reasons of profit rather than subduing enemies that actually threaten to destroy us.

A military budget that rivals that of the rest of the entire planet, COMBINED.

Corporations that have more influence over our government's activities than the people themselves, power used to start wars, destroy the environment and concentrate wealth into ever fewer hands.

I could go on, but I think i've made my point. This isn't a few isolated incidents. Our country is coming apart.

The direction has to change or we'll find ourselves in an irreversible spiral of self destruction. Some say it's already too late.

For the right leader with the right platform, the ground is ripe for sowing the seeds of real change. Somebody better, and soon.

The establishment (I can hear @UncleBuck grimacing and gnashing his teeth already, lol), defined as those who earn in excess of a million dollars annually and contribute large sums of money to political campaigns either personally or through corporate entities they run, are terrified of the raw power of the vast majority of Americans getting together and realizing that indeed WE are the majority and that we can demand our government be responsive to us instead of them.

The question is not whether this conflict will be violent, but rather how violent and who will be the pawns used in it.

so what did you do to show "the establishment" your "raw power" then?

And it doesn't have to be that way, but the entrenched powers aren't likely to go down peacefully. they have no compunction or reservation in using all means to maintain their dominance.

I still somehow hope a peaceful revolution will take place. My worst fear is that there won't be anything but acquiescence.

Somehow people have got to stop falling for the scapegoats and look to the people who are really causing the problems.

It's not the Mexicans or Blacks or welfare moms or gays......they don't have the kind of power to rule the country.

A quick glance at Trump's cabinet picks show us some of the people who are responsible for the problems, because they are the ones with power.

Both political parties have been hollowed out and assimilated by the Borg, the multinational corporate machine.

I know some here think Clinton was better but, hardly. we have two right wing parties in this country and that's about it.

Things can still change if the right people step forward. There are ways to effect real meaning change.

that's kind of what this thread is about. but no one seems to want to name anyone.

yeah, well i don't know their names either or I'd mention them.

I should have said the right kind of people and more of them and i don't only mean in the political arena. But also in labor and management. A revolution doesn't always have to be political in nature.

so you want a revolution. very nice. that is a goal.

i had a simpler goal, and took simple steps to help it succeed. just to get people to vote for the liberal and progressive candidate in the race, hillary clinton. my state went my way, but the midwest broke down so goal not achieved. oh well.

you have a much bigger goal, a revolution. what have you been doing to achieve a revolution?

Why is it always broke-dicks that demand revolution?

Maybe if they just tried harder in life?

Trump will get re-elected.

Who wants to bet their account? Oh wait, thats right. It would be an empty handed bet coming from this group.
I'll bet my account, because after 4 years of Trump I will probably be dead of liver disease anyway, seeing as I drink every time he fucks up to ease the pain, which so far is pretty much every fucking day. Oh well, you gotta die of something, right?

who are we gonna run?
Doesn't matter who will run from that list none of them can beat Trump they are Hillary shills. Bernie Sanders does have a chance but other than that the Democratic party is history unless Trump does a truly horrible job. Obama did a shit job his first term but they put him against Romney. :spew:

But what are you still doing here I know you bet your account with several people that Hillary would win?

So much for my RIU presidential poll not being accurate.:clap: @sunni too

There is no "right kind of person" to run others lives for them.

You are using a hammer to polish the car and wondering where the dents came from.

Lol, you think he'll last 1460 days without being impeached for lying non stop?

He can post 70 lies in 70 minutes to Twitter!
It's not illegal to lie it's part of our freedom of speech. Sure if he lies under oath that's a problem but he could say he bumped his head and don't recall like Hillarious Clinton.
