My roommate is, at least, $2g's into a 70gal saltwater tank and it's not fully stocked. That's not including the hundreds of dollars worth of fish and coral that he's lost. He just dropped $300 on lights because his coral isn't doing well, and he's looking into building a sump and adding more filtration. I trying to figure out what's more involved, hydro growing or managing a tank.

I've had several fresh water tanks over the years. With an array of creatures. Salt tanks are an expensive hobby. And I already got a few of them. I dismantled the last tank when the kid started to become mobile. I'll set one of them up again in a few years when she listens better.

Salt water tanks are expensive if you want stuff to survive. If you have a good setup not alot of maintenance, but still more than a fresh water tank. Here is mine, tank, stand, rock and clownfish were free still over 2k in led lights, apex controller for lighting heating and cooling, good water filtration/power heads. But I can sit and stare at it for hours. Sorry glass is dirty, damn snails not working hard enough.

I stick with fresh water.. I stock most of my tanks with live bearers and a couple pairs of badis badis... the deformed inbreds meet there fate in my spotted turtle enclosure

we have a pair of 12''+ oscars in a 55g. used to have a 300g pond tank with a snapping turtle, a largemouth bass, two crappie and a huge catfish. pretty cool, and when i got tired of them, fresh fish for supper was cool...

woah no sump omg and salt watering is harder than the little hydro stuff ive done it sucks id hydro grow any day and yes just a salt water tank setup cost several hundreds just for rocks sand and salt the fish and corals alone are pricey bro thats why i dont have one and just some gold fish

Thanks Mike! Ya the apex controller makes everything alot easier. Nice fades on lights on and off, takes care of temp ect. They really are not the hard to take care of, and the sump is not needed but makes it easier to put your skimmer, heaters, top off ect down there so it's not seen in the main display tank. Once setup you don't have to do much to it at all, just regular water changes. Maybe a little calcium or kh buffer and that's it.

there's a nice used 750g at the fish store for 2g, all inclusive for hardware. thinking about how much the sand and living rock is gonna cost for that bad boy, but i might go for it. i got a rogue octopus in my last salt tank, lost all my damn fish, then the octo climbed out and the dog got it (i think the cat got there first, but the dog was the one found chewing it). that was a 170g. gotta check the living rock, make sure you don't have any hitch hikers...

not usually, coming this far inland, you do your best to keep it alive during and after transport, so buying from fish store, you get what survives. the octo was a one hit wonder, never heard of it happening to others, but crabs are good hitch hikers, and they can hurt you too.

that tiny little water spider was kinda cool when you could see him. i kinda wish i'd not had the angels and clowns and had it set up for him/her/it. they are awesome in an alien kinda way, but after more than 1g of damage, you might understand why i was a little frustrated, lol...

see ive been kicking backing watching yotube vids of peoples tanks and seen most of them get so mad about the hitch hikers and i do understand once they destroy all of ur hard work/cash but some of them i think look pretty cool and the octo i would be happy for him to crawl around for a bit
