I think we should address the posters original claim before we get into an argument about who controls the price of oil. The poster originally stated that the price of gas always goes up when we have a republican president. He moved on to claim that the price of gas has been steady for the last 8 years. Both of these claims are irrefutably false. If we look at gas prices from 1929 to present day we see that gas has gone up during both republican and democratic presidencies, with the highest cost of gas ever recorded arriving during president Obamas time in office.
I have supplied a graph furnished by the U.S Department of Energy that follows the price of gas from 1929 to 2015. I will be referring to the green line on the graph as it takes into account inflation. I have also included a link to the U.S Department of Energy website.

Looking at this graph we see three major spikes in the price of gasoline. The first begins in 1977 and continues rising until about 1982. Jimmy Carter a democrat was president when the price of gas began to rise which continued into the first year or two of Reagan’s presidency. By the end of Ronald Reagan’s presidency the price of gas had dramatically decreased.
The second dramatic spike we see come in 2001 and peaks around 2007. The president during this time was republican George W Bush. By the end of his presidency the price of gas had began to fall but not nearly enough.
This brings us to the third and most dramatic increase in the price of gasoline which began around 2010 and peaks around 2013. During this period of time the president was Barack Obama who of course is a democrat. By 2015 we see another dramatic decrease in the price of gas.
Ok on to the last bit about how gas has been pretty steady over the last 8 years. Again all we have to do is look at the graph to see that the price of gas has dramatically fluctuated over the past 8 years. 8 years ago gas sat at bout $2.50 a gallon it rose over the years to a record high of around $3.75 a gallon and back down again to $2.50 a gallon. I would call this anything but steady!
So in summation have no fear I am here to do your research for you and as you can see it really doesn’t matter who is in office the potential for being fucked at the pumps will always be there. You are right though gas will go up again soon, and I’m sure you will be like “see I told ya so” to all of your friends completely ignoring the fact that OPEC just put a halt on production which will inevitably lead to higher gas prices during the Trump presidency. But I mean who cares as long as you seem right!
