So i think im ready to harvest. Any information and experience i have with these two strains says 8 - 10 weeks. Theres a couple white hairs left. They have seeds on purpose and smoke is good from test clip. Just wondering whats up with the lack of amber trichomes. They started to flower a week or 2 in to 12 12 so could this be week 8 not ten? I think i will harvest soon just wondering if anyone knows alot about ambering. I guess its a strain environment thing more then a buds are ready thing though it has always corresponded for me.
Strains are girl scout cookies and a bubble gum cross, pics in my journal from a week or 2 ago.

environment can effect flowering time as can slight variations in seeds from the same strain

What @mauricem00 said. With at least a pic of the leafs we could get a better idea of how much indica/sativa is in them. What magnification are you viewing them through? The ripeness of glandular stalks can be VERY difficult to gauge with the naked eye, this requires a lot of experience and good eyes. Some sativas can take a very very long time to amber. And if the plant has been pollinated them won't tell you anything with the hairs.

If your fan leafs a very skinny as long then you've got a sativa that may take a long time to ripen.

P.s. The resin is at its peak of thc production when the trichomes are milky /cloudy, this is when it'll give it's "headiest" effects. Amber is more body/sleepy. I like to pull most colas when they're just cloudy, and leave a few to amber a bit. I also harvest in waves, top middle bottom. This allows the lower sections to ripen. Few plants ripen evenly. There are times I'll leave the lower third for an additional 2-3 weeks, depending on if the next plant is ready to be put in the flowering tent. I typically just turn the whole lower third into concentrates anyhow, makes for some super sleepy smoke.

P.s.s. I'm not trying to run you through the basics, I'm sure you already know a lot of that if you've grown before. I just like to touch all the bases in case a beginner has the same issue and scrolls through this thread, I want to help anyone in anyway I can.

Good luck!

From what I understand...and I'm not an expert...but isn't amber a sign of massive THC degradation...to the tune of about 90%...and isn't it true that amber trich's represent increased CBN that has no real benefit?

I am only on my 3rd grow but I harvested at cloudy trichs both times and the smoke was wonderful...but I'm a newb so take that with a grain of salt...

Those would be brown, not amber

i took the top half 2 thirds or so down to where it didn't look done. think i will get 12 - 15 grms per plant dry seeded and lots of seedsIMG_20161220_105155.jpg IMG_20161220_110953.jpg IMG_20161220_114344.jpg

i use a 60-100 x microscope . trichs where cloudy cracked with brown amber showing on an occasional seed on one plant. the test smoke mix was good. great early day high and excellent anxiety relief.

surprisingly i got an oz per plant.
just harvested another round of smaller plants in smaller pots looking like similar yield and these all showed mostly cloudy with some amber some clear with mostly colored hairs. even the gsc showed a little amber and less cloudy trichs after the same amount of time. these last 3 where put in about 2 weeks after the first 2 .

Just FYI, From what I have read not all plants will produce obvious ambers.. I've always gotten ambers if i waited long enough though. As long as you like the smoke then its all good.
