Reservoir level

first time hydro grower. Having significant issues with my currrent grow. I believe it's all stemming from the roots. Can anyone tell me what the appropriate reservior level should be? How far under the net cups should it be? I realize it's a balancing act between the roots getting oxygen and deprivation of nutes. Thanks

I was confused at first to on water level but you want to raise the water level to about half an inch or an inch above the bottom of the net pot, make sure you take the clay pebbles out and see the water "bubbling" so you know air is getting to the roots, also make sure you are hand watering the seedling or the seedling will die before the roots make it to the water level or down in the resivor.
Also make sure there's a good layer of clay pebbles on top of where you see water you bubbling you don't want the rockwool cube getting soaked.
Only roots should be touching the water.
Pictures are nice to see to help learn your set up and situation.

I'll post pics later today. The roots are already established and almost at the bottom of the res. You are supposed to back the res level off at this point? My plants are no longer seedlings.

Yeah after the roots are coming out of the net pot I would give them a good 2inches away from the bottom of the pot.
It sound to me like you have another issue.

What's your ph at , resivor water temp, humidity and Ppm at? You should monitor those everyday or at least often weekly.
Ph should be between 5.5-6.8, water temp should be between 60-70F anything over 71F and you're asking for root rot.
humidity should be ideally at 40-60%.
ppm depends on what week of veg you are in

Res temp high 60s saw it in the low 70s once or twice.
Ppm 800 week 3
Ph 6.0
Rh 50-60%
I had the res levels too low according to your information. It was probably a good 6 inches away from the bottom of the net cups. I believe I might be in the beginning of root rot. The roots are tan and brownish but I was thinking it was staining for the nutes. I'm using technaflora. I'll take a pic of the roots maybe an expert eye can tell the difference. Already order the hydro guard

The coloration of roots can be caused by nutes.
Hydro guard should prevent any root issues.
I use plant success great white , it's a lot cheaper.
As long as your water stays below 71f consistently you shouldn't have root rot issues.
Ph good
Humidity good.
Water level may be a little low, but shouldn't do too much.
What is exactly going on that's a issue ?
Is the plant green and healthy or are some leafs looking bad?

Every leaf is looking poorly. They are displaying every symptom under the rainbow. Drooping, cupping up/down, clawing, brown/burnt tips, twisting, abnormal growth, brown spot(which I think I solved with cal/mag, purplish stems and some yellowing in the veins. Not every leaf varies plant to plant. Like I said I'm in a hole right now. I'll attached pics ASAP.

Should of stuck with soil. Lol
Im still a noob too it happens lol
I prefer hydro over soil.
could be root rot if it's a lot of issues,
Are the roots slimy or smelly? Get close an personal.
If you have any hydrogen peroxide it will temp fix root rot. Use about 1tsp per gallon, you can use more it won't hurt.
And are you using tap water?
If so how many ppm is it alone by its self?
Also what nutrients and additives are you using?
But yeah ake pics of roots and multiple leafs!
And watch that water temp for now.

Yea adding boost first. Following everything on that sheet in order. About 75% strength
Wow that's crazy you're on track from everything you say,
Possible ph fluctuations? Possible ph meter inaccurate, possible root rot, possible nutrient contamination.
Make sure you're adding 1tsp of CALMAG per gallon. Cal/mag can lockout other nutrients as well I believe.
thats about all I can think of for starters.
And If you're using tap water i believe you need to let the water sit for 24hrs to let the chlorine evap out, it can cause issues supposedly.

Yea Im finding it very confusing myself. I did my homework before I started. Might be over thinking it.
Using filtered water right now about 30ppm to start. I'll get pics. Maybe I'm missing something stupid.
Thanks for the help everyone

What have you been using for cal mag issues?
And filtered from you tap? Or bought in a bottle?
