California Lightworks Solarsystem 550

I have been pricing these against some timber COBs. If these 550s will really cover a 3x4 area under bloom they are cheaper to buy than running timber COBs at 35w/sqft. That and your don't have to build them and they have a fancy controller system. Any other opinions on these? Or am I totally missing something major as a total newb?

if youre into purple they are HQ lights that will last and the company stands behind them. pricing is pretty good for what you get..Efficiency is intermediate but you can always dim them and also adjust reds/blues.

their veg spectrums are always pretty on point and sure keep stretching down

Bobby, does the new CLW model still require rivet drilling for fan replacement?
ive never had a fan go out in any of the units ive owned. regardless, this is ip65 (67? whatever washdown is), and the fans are external to the sealed housing and are removable/replaceable

Hi @TAGrows,

We have a lot of customers that have switched from Mars, Platinum and CLW to a COB based lighting system. The feedback has been very positive. If you have additional questions about the COB kits from Timber I'd be happy to assist. Additionally, there are many grows posted online demonstrating the efficacy of the COB based design.

Have a good day.

Regards,
Dan

Running two 550s and love them both. Two 4x4 tents, one autos and the other 4 full cycle plants. Double the light ( I have a third in reserve) during flowering of the full cycle plants. Just started. Solid, compact build on these lights, and my plants are deep green and super healthy. Fast growth in veg with the default settings. More than enough light for budding. The controller adds a dimension of control that swung the deal. That and the price! Modular 1100 watts total for $1600.

unfortunately clw got caught up in the over-rating of fixtures. their "200" model used 40 5W diodes (driven at less than 5W, about 170W total at wall w/cooling fan), the original 220 used 44 x5W diodes (same 170W but more efficient). the newer 220 uses 72 3V osrams (about the same 170W, but even more efficient). i cant remember how many diodes are on the 550 but they are also 3W osrams

its a great great light imo. despite the fact that it only throws down 1.55 umol/J, myself and others feel that the targeted spectrum makes it operate as efficiently as a white light at higher umol/J. remember par includes all photons from 400-700 and you can have a high par lamp thats 100% green light, but it wouldnt make it a great light

Thanks for the feedback amigo, much appreciated. Transitioning from outdoor to indoor and took a leap on the 550s. Figured was good dollar value. So far I like what I see. Don't know lights, but I can recognize a happy plant. :)

What's your average yield? Or is this your first grow?

First run with these. Will let you know. So far just excellent. For veg one unit is great. Plants love the light.
Here's my experience if you would like to reference this.

About a pound per 400w light. Which is good. But for the SQFT you can easily get much more with COBs.

I'd imagine 2 SS 550 per 4'x4' would crush it and during flower with the blue at 20% watt for watt it would beat HID and for sure give the same wattage cobs a run for their money.

My thinking exactly. But CobKits advice also well taken. Going with two 550s and will adjust as required with the controller. Another 10 days or so of veg. Hopeful about the results. Thanks much for the growth reference.
