No, not that I dont believe you, its just when you check Budmaster UK site, there is all these "UK made this, UK made that" talk about. One would think its all made in house. Thats rather misleading to be honest.

I am actually really happy with mine, the 3 watt ones are older tech though, keep that in mind; you should be getting them on the cheap for that reason. That Monster line or I think XG as budmaster calls it came out like 3 years ago. The Saga is new, and if you want a laugh you can watch this unboxing video.
The Saga in that vid pulls 400 at the wall and cost $300 wholesale (plus shipping duty etc), and honestly other than it looks retarded I would have no issues putting that in a grow.

Osram LEDs are German.
Epistar leds are Taiwanese.

Their stuff may get assembled in the UK (so they can claim the growlight is made in the UK), but the parts are from all over the world.
"made in the UK" doesn't actually add any value whatsoever.

@frica
Sure, like one would think BMW and Mercedes-Benz use only their technology, then you find out BMW uses in some of their cars Peugeot engines and MB uses Renault-Nissan engines. Not saying thats a bad thing though.

@canadian1969
Thats very silent review haha. Well it seems like the trend is turning around, as Chinese like to copy our stuff, we now blatantly steal their tech and rebrand it haha.

OK, as funny as it may sound, I still might give them a shot with maybe 1x HPS-9 series.
I've also just found out one of our members here on RIU is involved in Spectra COB9 development, so I have emailed him also and we will see. Maybe I order some COB9 lights and do side-by-side comparison with HPS-9

Just talked to the guys at Spectra. Apparently the new revision is coming January next year. They will remove Ardunio support and displays, which is to bad, but OK, let see what else changes. Hopefully the price drop a little bit.

@modeler fwiw, diy cobs with pin fin heatsinks are just fantastic. The spread is awesome and you can design them to fit any space, and if you want to you can redesign them later. I know nothing about the finished light you're thinking about, but they have to be just glorious to beat cobs. If you get predrilled heatsinks it's nothing to building one, and I'm borderline retarded when it comes to diy. I imported from Oz and America, smooth sailing. Now there's even more possibilities, more vendors, and more choice. If nothing else you'll get a profound sense of accomplishment when your babies bask in the gentle rays of your labor lol. It will definitely be out of proportion to the work actually done.

Budmaster made by these guys:
https://sanxinbao.en.alibaba.com/productlist.html aka Evergrow
Discontinued COB manufacturing, I confirmed this about a week ago, "budmaster UK" the reseller/rebrander obviously still has stock.
I have two of the Monster series and they work fine, as always it comes down to watts and the old 3 watt panels are not the way to go these days (unless you get a good price like $1/watt or less).
They have a new series called Saga , which combines 3 and 5 watt diodes with some additional whites.
Budmaster for some reason is not carrying the Saga line from Evergrow.

They seem to have stopped making COB lights due to lack of demand (presumably they mean in Europe).

That is actually not true.. when Budmaster originally came out years ago, they were made in China but now Budmaster products are made in the UK, by UK companies. Not rebranded and everything now is designed by budmaster and sourced locally. (except the drivers which are outsourced) and obviously the diodes/chips are purchased from manufacture.

They didn't stop making COB lights, but they did switch from using citiled to now using a MCOB design using small Osram SMD COBs.

Diodes/chips and the driver are pretty much the only things that matter any way.
And the heatsink on that thing isn't anything special either.

Also it's a shame they don't give their total light output numbers.
Instead we only get PPFD (no PPF or PAR watt)

The PPFD on those panels is clearly going to be inflated because they all have lenses which gives higher peak PPFD ratings, but the surrounding areas will have lower PPFD ratings.

A CXB3590 panel is more efficient.
A v7 Vero 29 panel is more efficient
Current gen citiled panel will be more efficient. (Budmaster used a previous gen Citiled cob in their older cob panels)
Those quantum boards are also more efficient.

Also they don't tell what bin they're using, besides the fact that the SSL80 diodes in their HPS panels are driven at 600mA while they're binned at 300-350mA. (overdriven)

If I did not know better I would say your post is nothing more than a shameless plug. As far as I know budmasters are made in the Uk in wales I think, and you have provided nothing to the contrary in terms of evidence!

Edit seems icemud has filled in the blanks nice one lol

I might have another look into 1212s. Are these good ?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/5X-CITIZEN-117-5W-LED-Chip-3500K-CITILED-cob-module-CLU048-1212C4-353H6K2-/112238025207?hash=item1a21e859f7:g:f5sAAOSwV0RXvaBz

I really dont know much about 1212s as I have been reading mostly applies to 3590
Yes those are good and at that price they are a real bargin, best price I have seen them go for.

I have uploaded photon flux data for that series,, all the calcs are courtesy of Jorge I think!

Just curious, but what does any of that have to do with being made in the UK?

Also SSL's can be run up to 1000mA.

Just out of curiosity I checked that alibaba link but the lights for sale on that page don't look like any of the ones on bud masters site not as far as I can tell anyways

The alibaba web store isnt helping me and the evergrow main site doesnt show all the products, so my apologies for not providing specific links. I am not shilling for anyone or bashing anyone. As I said I have two evergrow lights, older tech, but I am happy with them; what they refer to as the Nova S2 or Monster series, which is the same thing as the Budmaster XG/HPS/GOD series. You can order whatever spectrum selection you want , 25 diode unmountable modules, they have something like 14+ diodes to choose from last I asked (couple years now), you can get your name stamped in the housing, select different finishes etc. etc.

look familiar?

Of course anyone is capable of contacting Evergrow and asking them if they have a distributor in the UK. If they say no then I guess they have been lying to me and if thats the case then I never mention their name in public again and dox their pricing. My guess is if you are in the UK and try to buy from Evergrow they will refer you to budmaster, they seem super paranoid about protecting their distributors.

Also, budmaster has been around for like what 3 years so lets not talk about them like they are some institution. Does anyone really think that there is some magical manufacturing facility at the address Budmaster lists? The only being created out there is sheep. Maybe go tour their factory?

Come on guys the best you can hope for is "assembled in the UK", did they customize the spectrum, yes, did they customize the housing, yes, did they actually fabricate anything in the UK, sorry no. Are all their products currently from Evergrow, I dont know. Lets call them what they are "value added reseller" , and I have no problem with that , I have no problem with budmaster in general, although their marketing is a bit cheesy, I mean "high pressure sunlight", come on, thats just friggin goofy seo BS. Again, believe nothing, verify yourself.

The Budmaster PCB's are made my Marl, which is in the UK..

From what I understand he will be sourcing new drivers from a company in Spain.

Heatsinks made by Mark Waterpumps limited in Wales, UK Proflow is their brand.

Fans are from 2 companies, one is Activa Inc, a Taiwan company:

And Wellsunfan which is a Shenzen company

Osram Chips are made in China and Malaysia

The cases were designed by Fox Metal Design in Wales, however I believe after design flaws he changed to a different case manufacture for the new laser cut designs. http://www.fdms.co.uk/

Cob Plastic holders are 3d printed by Budmaster inhouse.

All assembly of the Budmaster panels was done in the UK until this month where now it will be done by Marl in the UK.

The lenses were made by A2B plastics in Wales, but recently the material was changed to a PC material for better light transmission so I don't know if they still are made by A2B. http://a2bplastics.co.uk/
IMG_20160517_180842.jpg

From what I understand, Originally when Budmaster launched a few years back the panels were made by a chinese company, probably Evergrow as you mentioned. The design according to one of the UK vendors I spoke with who knows the owner of budmaster well told me that supposedly Evergrow started selling the Budmaster designed LEDs to other companies and got caught. All ties with Evergrow were cut and the materials and assembly were brought to the UK and from that point on have remained in the UK and assembled by Budmaster until this month when now Marl will be taking over the assembly.

I think I remember Advanced LED also originally went through evergrow for their lights originally and had the same thing happen.

So yes, originally you are correct as when they launched a few years ago they were bought assembled from China, but that is no longer true and you can see by the parts and photos above that most of the materials are made and sourced in the UK.

If anyone has an evergrow Nova they wanna tear open and shoot some photos, I would be curious in seeing how many parts are the same... I doubt more than possibly the drivers are the same.

So that is the truth as far as I know it, with proof provided.
