What kind of soil or medium first timer

I want top quality nugs I have about 200 to spend I would like to buy locally if I can. I think I want to go with dirt for my first grow though. Hydroponics looks interesting maybe in the future. I have a 4 by 4 tent so maybe 4 - 6 plants total.


I need to figure out my medium. Should I go with fox farm ocean? I would like to make a sub's super soil but I don't have time to cook it and it's winter here so it would take a while I too. I want to get growing.

If I use fox farm what nutes should I use. General hydroponics looks interesting because you can get a sample pack of everything for 40 shipped and I would probably get through one grow with this. Would this work well with fox farms ocean?

guy at the store recommends canna soil with nutes grow, flower, npk, and the root booster. I dont think a lot of people use this though. I found only a few thread on this.

Before choices fox farms check out all the ff problem threads. The organic super soil Is a great idea just dont use subcools layering tech. I would go with a organic water only mix first time.

Hey frankslan so you want Top Quality Nugs? Let me save you a few years of growing and say that you will never achieve the quality, taste or smoothness of Organically Grown Herb using Synthetic Nutrients. I have used Nutrients in the past with good results and the flowers turn out fine, but as far as end product is concerned Nutrient grown is incomparable to Organically grown in every single aspect. Since you don't have the time to " cook " a SuperSoil I would suggest going with some of the No-Till mixes if you are using big enough pots or raised beds. Otherwise I would go with a Organic Soil mix alongside Compost Teas and Topdressings. I think you will be pleasantly surprised by your results and glad you took my advice.

I personally love working with Plagron. You will not need anything else. They have a wide variety of soils. All are organic (!!!!)
Pre-fert for 6 weeks, then you have your clear schedule for nutrients and micro nutrients from the same company.
Been using Plagron for quite a while now and I could not be happier.

I was going to look into coco basically its like soil with no nutes correct? How often do you have to water them though it's it more of a hydro type medium?

Home Depots Black Magic potting mix or coco are both good choices. Even their Part A and B nutrients are effective and easy to use.

I was wondering if that HD Black Magic soil was any good.

If you go with Fox Farms Ocean Forest throw in some dolomite lime. I was having terrible problems with calcium def (CalMag didn't seem to do anything, and our well water has both minerals to boot) until I added dolomite. A handful per bag would probably be good. Because dolomite is a mineral that isn't going to break down immediately and throw you into some other kind of imbalance an exact dosage isn't critical. IMO.

I read here on the forum that Fox Farms uses oyster shell for calcium and that gets used up quickly. I can't say whether that's accurate or urban legend.

I use Coco #4 advanced, water it every other day ATM. It's getting Guano, Alfalfa, humus and castings tea. Looks better than it ever has on bottle's. Am I a organic person.. no never liked it before, but results are results. So I'm saying you can use bottles and still use teas.

First-time grower here but if it's any use, I used Bio-Bizz All-Mix from seed. Plants absolutely love it. 20l bag in the UK is just 7quid which is great for a perosnal grower like myself. I personally wouldn't use anything else atm.
