Admittedly leftist, but only by comparison to the right wing 'mainstream media'.

Agree? Disagree? I welcome all serious viewpoints.

What's happening in our country is the modern corporatist version of McCarthyism, of that there can be little doubt.

Reads like a conspiracy theory. Skimmed through a lot it, most wasn't news to me. Protesters are rarely met with open arms. However, I was unfamiliar with the fact that vets showed up to protest in uniform at standing rock, great idea.

Are corporations flexing their power in our republic, absolutely. Is Trump going to take us one step closer to a corporatocracy, yes. But, I do believe in the power of consumers and voters to counter act their influences.

I don't think mere 'consumer buying power' is a match for the implications of corporatism.

If it reads like a conspiracy theory, then where is their logic off? I'm having trouble poking any holes in their portrait of the current political climate.

Why not, we've been successfull at pushing back against big tabacco. They don't have nearly the amount of influence they once had on society.

It is a steaming pile of crap...

I read a few paragraphs, jumped to the complete mischaracterization of the michael brown incident and shut the column down...

Occupy wall street got shut down because they attempted to occupy public and private property that they did not own. Michael Brown was a criminal thug that deserved to die on the sidewalk.

Big Tobacco is small potatoes compared to the Federal Government itself, or the defense industry or the financial sector or even big pharma. Put together, we're seeing the events described by this article becoming routine.

The Feds have been in the business of deliberately infiltrating, undermining and dismantling citizen led movements for generations now, from Black Power to Occupy Wall Street. J. Edgar Hoover showed the way, and they've been at it ever since.

Class warfare is real and it's rather clear who's been winning; before 1980, productivity and average income rose more or less together. After 1980, productivity continued to climb- but average incomes flatlined. That was almost 40 years ago...

So you couldn't stand to read the entire piece.

That's an opinion. I hear you about what it says- namely, that it's uncomfortable for you to the point of revulsion. I think that's a legitimate point of view and while I don't share it, I do want you to know that I respect it.

What it doesn't do is allow us to have a discussion about its contents, so thanks for your time.

That's when Reagan restructured the tax codes to favor the super rich. Then he used deficit spending to fool people into believing that "trickle down" economics actually worked. It was a masterpiece of bullshit.
Guess what's at the top of the GOP agenda these days.
Chump wants to be orange Reagan.

Pick your battles wisely, stay out of the limelight, fly below the radar, keep your powder dry.
None of which addresses the problem of erosion of our Civil Rights. Your approach cedes all the power to the oppresser, which is just what they want.

As long as the powers that be can keep us divided against ourselves- rep vs dem, black vs white, rich vs poor- we will continue to lose.

In regards to civil rights, use them every opportunity.

If you have ideas to preserve rights please share them, I'm interested.

Retain a lawyer and hand out his card to law enforcement regularly anytime they fuck with you.
I prefer not answering questions and not consenting to searches. I'm usually armed. Declared when interacting w Leo's. That alone makes the tenor of the exchange serious and professional. I don't present as a threat, just vigilant.
