Single Plant DWC Grow - Candy Kush

I figured my jars from my last grow are getting a little low so I figured I would give the DWC another try.

I will be growing Auto Seeds - Candy Kush (auto/feminised)
18/6 Light Schedule
I have a 2'6"x4' Grow tent
Mars 300w led grow light
I built my bucket from a Lowe's bucket and wrapped it with aluminum tape to block out any unwanted light.
I am using General Hydroponics Flora Series Performance Pack w/ PH UP and Down

Any suggestions for a cheapish ph tester? Last grow I had to use the drops, man that is a time consuming process

A few things I added to my tent this time were Vivosun light ratchets so I can adjust the height of the light quickly, last time I had a mini strap I had lying around and it was not very user friendly.

I will also be trying a new airstone to see if I can get some better bubbles in the bucket.

I will try to keep this grow as simple as possible, hopefully without causing much harm to my girl. So if you see me doing something wrong please let me know.

I placed the seed in my Jiffy pod on Monday January 9th, yesterday when I came home from work I took this picture, she is awake and ready to start growing. Wish me luck.

This is kind of a dumb update because there is not a whole lot that can happen in one day, but......... "Kandy" is an attention whore and wants all the attention she can get So yesterday I peeked in the tent and she is looking like a new born plant. I would get her into the 5 gal bubble bucket tonight but I have a concert that I have to go to so Friday looks like the day. I will get my hydroton all washed and placed in my new new pot and get ready to get this grow moving along.

How long are your roots?

I personally would wait cuz like me I used distilled water it's just a waste of money u less u can see roots just starting to peak, I'm asumming u have them in a smaller res atm?

They are actually just sitting in the Jiffy container at the moment. Last grow I did I left them like this a few days and them placed them in the net pot. I had to run a little bit of water over them from time to time but the bubbles are so close to the water that the hydroton stays nice and wet and seems to get the roots enticed to grow to the water.

Hey bro....one thing I know about autos is they hate to be transplanted ....its highly recommended to start thèm in the container they are going to finish in.....I've done it a handull of times different ways and damn near everytime the plants came out small. I have some Auto Candy Kush seeds I want to dwc too Im justt trying to fi h ure out the best way to start them. I've seen people germinate them then put them in the net pod full of hydroton and nothing else.....keep posting picks bro I'm curious ...and how did you start yours

I started mine in a Jiffy pellet. I let it sit for a few days and now I placed the whole pellet in hydroton. I did it the same way last time with decent results. Hopefully this time around I don't have unexpected visitors show up so that I have to cut her down a few weeks too early.
I put the new airstone in and it seems to be bubbling very nicely. Saturday morning I ph'd my water and got everything ready to go. Looks kind of funny being so small at the moment but soon she will hopefully take off.

She's green she's growing good luck. A little advice don't buy a cheap ph Meter or you will.definitely have ph issues. The first one I bought was 10 bucks on ebay and I was having all kinds of ph problems but thought it was something else because my ph meter said my ph was cool well it wasn't o bought a Hanna GroPro it was 60 bucks ......best investment ever.....well not investment it was 60 bucks.....I can't wait to get my Auto Candy Kush going.....good luck bro

Things have not been unfolding very quickly, but we are on our second set of leaves. I imagine she is working on her root system, although no roots have popped out the bottom. But she is growing and looking nice and green. I just figured I would post a picture so the progress can be showed.

Sounds like a plan to me. I am just using the old 300W Mars Hydro. I know some say it's not that great but for the type of growing I do it is perfect. It grows me decent enough bud that I can go without buying any for a few months.

That's all that matters bro.....all these professionals out here can talk as much shit as they want I don't sel km the shit any more so all I grow is a couple 3-4 for myself and keep it simple as possible......sure I'd love to set up a room with 3 or 4 Kind K5's with light movers and co2 generators and all that shit but who the fuck got the money for that.....I just bought 3 Apollo 4 LED....this will be the first time I have ever used LED 's I don't know jack shit about them grow wise.....all I know is I got infiltrated and had to pull down my 3/10 so now I am attempting a bedroom closet grow that's why I bought the LEDs

Hey bro what's up....got a quick question for ya whenever you put your plug into the hydroton of course your roots aren't sticking through the bottom of your net pot so do you have your dwc running? And do you have nutrient in the water before the roots are hanging in it? Thanks man

The way I do it is I wait until I have a small root popping out of the bottom of the pellet. Then I place it in the hydroton and scoop water from the reservoir and pour it over the hydroton to wet it down, I do this 1 time a day, don't ask me why, I guess I read it somewhere that it helps the roots to grow down to the reservoir, who knows if I am doing this correct or not but it seems to work.
Yes I have 1/2 strength nutes in the reservoir from the day I place it in the hydroton. I keep the water close to the net pot without it being submerged.

So far it seems to be working because I have 2 roots finding their way out of the net pot

i'll let both of you know what has worked perfect for me for years. get a small aerogarden unit. buy some rapid rooters. start your seeds in the aerogarden. usually, in 3 weeks from putting the seed in the rooter, the roots are about 6 inches long and the plant is maybe 3 to 4 inches tall. cut out a small hole in the center of the netpot, drop your roots thru, fill up with hydroton and they are ready to go. the roots are already in the res and they take off in a matter of hours.

no problem. it's the easiest way to start off a dwc grow.

the critical time is when you start the seed to when the roots finally hit the res. this eliminates all that.

i even do this to start tomato plants, pepper plants etc. then they go right in the soil.

What's up Pyke.....so I had that candy kush seed in one of those little jiffy disc you soak in water then they expand they are small like rapid rooter plugs becausee I was just gunna throw it in coco then I got into this dwc. All u did was when it sprouted from the lil jiffy joint I dug out a lot of the hydroton put the jiffy joint in there and surrounded it as it gets a little bigger I'll put a little more hydrogen and it's growing looks a little funky though when I get home I'll take a picture of this little fucker and send it to you

What's up Pyke.....so I had that candy kush seed in one of those little jiffy disc you soak in water then they expand they are small like rapid rooter plugs becausee I was just gunna throw it in coco then I got into this dwc. All u did was when it sprouted from the lil jiffy joint I dug out a lot of the hydroton put the jiffy joint in there and surrounded it as it gets a little bigger I'll put a little more hydrogen and it's growing looks a little funky though when I get home I'll take a picture of this little fucker and send it to you

Yeah take a picture and post it so we can take a look. I let my seed sprout a little before I put the jiffy in the hydroton, you can see about how big it was before it went into the hydroton if you look at my second post. Mine looked a little funny for a few days and then it straightened up and everything seems normal.
