Problem with runoff PPM being 8000+

Most of the growers that want to have complete control of the grow medium either grow in soiless like coco, peat or a medium that doesn't contain nutrients at all so they can control what the plant receive and whats in the medium, that way if a deficiency show up u can check the run off and get an idea if u have a build up in the growing media for overdoing things and feeding without a runoff of at least 15-20% is not that it will be 100% accurate but it will give u an idea and a starting point as possibllitys and where to check first., If everything is going well like op situation is pointless to check but if u starting to get bunch of deficiency's almost always is either ph out of wack causing lockout of nutrients and micros or is either salt buildups for feeding heavy without runoff causing lockout at that point of getting deficiency's and with all the characteristics mentioned before thats why I advice checking runoff ppm's just to have an IDEA what the culprit might be. That's imo i know some people will think differently but u know u stick to what it works for u!! Toke on ====~~

in your grows do you expect your run off to be somewhere close to what your solution EC is or within some margin or degree of separation?
and if so can you provide an example?

Choosing Soil

We recommend brands such as Klassman KT2, FoxFarm Ocean Forest, Pindstrup Universal, CompoSana Universal/Flower/Bio or Plantacion (Spain), FloraGard Vital Blumenerde or comparable FloraGard soil mixes for flowers/plants. Use a seedling mix for germinating your seeds.

Worm manure and compost is a valuable additive (use 15-20% in your mix).

Heavily fertilized soils like Bio Bizz All-Mix have shown not to be suitable for indoor grows. They contain too much nitrogen, have an extremely high EC (salt) level, and are better used for outdoor where the plants have a longer growth period. The Light Mix offered by Plagron and Bio Bizz is extremely low in nutrients and completely unsuitable for any natural soil cultivation.
Further details and more product suggestions are available in our SOIL GUIDE.

Good soil for cannabis cultivation has the following formula:

Compo Sana Universal

pH 5.5-6.5

N:200-450 mg/L

P:200-400 mg/L

K:300-500 mg/L

above I copied and pasted some info provided by the mandala seed web site

it describes a range of whats likely in your soil out of the bag

so thinking out loud
so would you say it sounds accurate to say

if I start a seed in potting soil and then re-pot into foxfarm (hot mix) and the water it in im sure the run of would show a much higher EC than the plain water going in
since id be pushing the nutes already in the soil out with each watering the waste should naturally be significantly higher than the feed water in the case of soil???

for this reason relying on the run off EC isnt appropriate

it would be nice if those guys knew the difference between soil and sterile mediums. They say don't use pro-mix bx, well guess what I and MANY others use? pro-mix bx, WHY? because of the same reason they say not to use it,lol
with a sterile medium like coco or peat, you want full control. In soil, you can do organic or bottle feeding, I never liked bottle feeding soil.

When i used to grow synthetic yes i used to check but not as much since I always allowed like 20% runoff., I used to check runoffs ppm's when i ran into a deficiency's since i always started with a cero nutrients soil so i always get and idea what was going on under the soil with the ppm's test., Now i have been doing all organic for 2 years and I don't check anything anymore!! And im happy!! Happy gardening people!!

The OP says he's using Roots, not Fox Farm soil. Roots has nutrients in it as well, like FF. Why is more fert being added to soil that has fert? Why are you multiplying by 10 to your ppm? Never heard of this before. Does your measuring device tell you to do this?
Remember that ferts build up in soil over time, so be careful how much you add.

No it literally says ppm 145 for water and "ppm 850x10" for runoff.. But like he said if they look happy no need to worry and they are looking better than ever

I think I figured out the x10 thing. the meter display doesn't show 8500. instead if the ppm is over 999 it shows the value x10, like 1000 ppm would be 100 x10. I'm guessing that's it. don't know what else it would be. 8500 is pretty far up there.
