between these two panels, which would be better?

Rooster, I don't mean to offend you. Very often when someone takes a shot at the generic Chinese lights at least one person rises up to defend them. I understand how people who have successfully grown under these lights might feel they have to say something.

But when someone is asking for advice on spending their money, well, to some extent we have to set feelings aside. I think the debate about COBs is over. High-binned COBs from the top three or four manufacturers are superior to blurple panels. And dimmable Meanwell drivers are vastly superior to the cheap drivers used in blurple panels.

So if I pipe up in one of these conversations I'm going to encourage people to save another couple hundred dollars and buy something like a Timber Kit or Mau5 kit or etc. A complete DIY from scratch is hard. Figuring out all that binning stuff, etc.

after watching several of mau5 vids on youtube, i came across these bad boys:

https://www.cutter.com.au/proddetail.php?prod=cut3013

however, im still struggling to understand the drop down menu options, this is my first indoor grow, i usually let the sun do its thing and lazily accept whatever results come about. can someone please provide some clarification for me. My buddy is a master electrician, so im confident he would be able to throw something like this together for me, however, sourcing some of these components in germany seems to be troublesome from other posts i have seen. im trying to grow at most 4 birds in a 1M X 1M tent. as always, any advice is greatly appreciated.

Cheers

I'm about switch a 5x5 from hps to cob. I have all tools to build, and an electrician. I'm not sure about sourcing everything. I keep hearing kingbright, but I like costumer service, actually talking to someone who speaks english.so far timber seams most reasonable, I priced metal, for 30 to 50 more they build frame for you, I can't build it for that. I'm stuck not sure vero or cree. I have 10ft ceilings, Dan from timber told me to check out the vero29, he said they are slightly more efficient than the cree, with better spread if you have the height. I've been searching on here, but keep finding people arguing over different lights. I know for a fact mars are junk, I have 2 pro series, mars1200, but they are great heaters, 10 to 15 degrees hotter than hps. I have 2 clw ss550's, I pull around lb a light. They work good. I'm interested in the cob's. Anyone with serious info would be appreciated

I was told Amare Cree Cob LED's are the absolute best out-of-the-box full spectrum lights!
Amare uses 3500K cobs with 5000K Cree XP-G3 leds and a little extra blue and red.

It's efficient and you're getting high end LEDs so it's good.

Not sure if it's so much better as they claim, but they offer a great product that isn't too expensive.

Nice. I have cobs and CLW ss550s. I got my diy kits from timber grow lights. Simply because his diy kits are already done it's just hang, plug and play. But you can check out northern grow lights, cobkits.com, artificial sun specialty for parts as well as kingbrite. Shipping from china or Australia sucks up any discount you'd get from ordering over the ocean in my experience.

Good morning, I am in doubt which of the two investing, I'm the short money, so I can not invest in a really good panel as a blackdog.
Blackdog isn't good anyway, they're just really expensive.

You can also go an other cheap route by using LED bulbs. (Pictures aren't mine, but you get the idea)
Most people who use LED bulbs don't use that many on such a small area, this one is just a bit more extreme.

Frica, what type of LED bulbs are these?

Generic 100w (or 60) equivalent led bulbs with the diffuser removed.
Philips tends to have the most efficient ones.

If you live in the EU you can also easily get the 20w Osram Parathoms that put out 2452 lumen (122lm/w)

I just checked out cutter, timber is around same price with 3 yr warranty. I can't find out much on vero29. I'm thinking for 25sq ft I'm going to need around 1000w for good coverage. I have already learned there is no upside from hps to cheap panels, hps alot more efficient and cooler

Vero29 are the flagship cobs from Bridgelux and very efficient.

With 25 sq ft and efficient leds you can get away with 25w per square foot, so even just 600w is fine.
1000w is nicer though.

Thanks, a friend went back to hps after trying blackdog, he tried 1000, sent it back, cost more to operate than traditional bulbs
