The ability to dump cash into elections is inherently inimical to the very idea of democracy; one person, one vote. No cash involved.

Getting money out of politics- ALL OF IT- is the only answer that preserves democracy.

I'm pretty convinced that many people don't understand this.

Agree. Sadly, Im not sure its an attainable one though.

Citizens United v FEC and Speechnow.org v FEC were horrendous decisions in my opinion. It allows for the Koch's and Soros of the world to dump even more cash over a wider area.

I dont believe that follows in the spirit of the constitution.

Thanks for the question Haf, I do mean that. My opinion on the Koch's and others like him in all political spheres dumping cash? I may have answered that in my reply to ttystikk, post #69. I dont like it at all.

Do I think the right has the "will of the people?" There is no such thing, so no I dont. It doesnt exist, that is, until 2/3's or more of the country votes in the same direction. Its just a term coined by media. History has shown that more often than not, Presidential victories trade wins with right and left. A Democrat will be the next President whether its in 4 or 8 years, regardless if the market drops to 5000 or jumps to 50000 and everyone doubled their salary. Mark my words.

Regarding the third question, no I dont believe the GOP was better funded and therefore controlled the population so to speak, which is what I think you are trying to describe? Correct me if Im wrong understanding the question please. I think both sides were grossly over funded, and would prefer to see some of these funds get sent to 3rd parties so we can hear what they have to say. I want more dialogue of difficult problems that have been kicked down the road my entire life and the current arrangement makes that difficult. Just a couple percent each from GOP and DNC would be more than plenty to give folks like Green Party, Libertarian, etc, a chance to be heard. The people decide what they buy. Just like choosing between Target or Walmart.

I may disagree with many policies on the left, and certainly disagree with many on the right, but its important to understand how important ( I think) opposition is regardless of how you feel about it. They keep each other in check because they want to take the spot back they just lost. And back and forth we go. It protects us from a runaway government, i.e. Venezuela or Palestine
