"Obama did it also"...nonsense

We're hearing a lot of chatter from those defending this middle eastern immigration and travel ban.

They are all repeating the same thing as if on cue, "Obama did it" or "You all are just mad because Trump did it".

These sound like potentially valid responses. Valid that is if the facts if this matter are completely ignored.

"Trump’s comparison of his immigration actions to Obama’s policy in 2011 is a faulty one. The fact is that the Obama administration was responding to a known and specific threat from one country and limited its response to refugees from that country, while Trump’s order temporarily bans refugees from all countries — indefinitely in the case of those from Syria — and temporarily bars all other visitors from seven predominately Muslim countries."

(1) Context - Obama signed his order after a triggering event (Iraqi refugees found making bombs to use against US military); until Trump makes others mad enough to retaliate (which might well be in the very near future), there's no similar triggering event;

(2) Process - Obama instituted additional screening for Iraqi visas, which slowed down their processing. Sure, it might've been a ploy to issue fewer of them, but it was not a ban on issuing the visas.

(3) Scope - Obama's order did not apply to anyone with a current visa or green card. While Trump has walked back the green card application supposedly, his ban still applies to current visa holders.

(4) International law - Obama's order did not send any refugees back to countries where they were at high-risk, because it did not apply to current visa holders. Trump's order does that, which is not permitted under the Geneva Convention.

(5) Review - Obama's order was vetted through the proper channels before it was executed to ensure it was legal, coherent, and would not have unintended consequences

That didn't take long.
Acting AG Yates directs DOJ attorneys not to defend Trumps immigration EO.
And...you're fired.

Love this guy.

Play ball or get the fuck out.

"After eight long years of a lawless Obama Department of Justice, it is fitting--and sad--that the very last act of the Obama DOJ is for the Acting AG to defy the newly elected President, refuse to enforce the law, and force the President to fire her. Sally Yates now joins the ignominious succession, from Eric Holder to Loretta Lynch, of Attorneys General who put brazen partisan interests above fidelity to law."

14th Amendment.

Hitler and Stalin purged the disloyal too, it's a good way to get a high concentration of completely brainless drones.
