Keeping light out of res. Slimmy build up

I was wondering what the best way to keep light out of my res is. I have extra mylar. Should I surround it in that? Would the mylar increase the heat in there? I just looked in my tank 1 day after flushing and I have little white particles floating around and coating my roots. I plan on flushing it, hitting the roots with some h202 and the res, refilling with distilled water and covering the res in mylar. Also gonna get some hydrogaurd. Does this sound right? Using GH flora series nutes but with some crappy pH down. gonna get some GH pH down tomorrow too. Suggestions? Thoughts? any help would be great.

hey man, not sure if I understand you perfectly, but are you looking for a way to cover the whole the stem comes out or is your whole res translucent? If it's just the holes, I don't see any problem with covering them with mylar. You'll even get some light bouncing up under the plants which is good. Depending on the size of the hole, you can take a paper plate, put a hole in the middle and cut a slit, then turn the plate over and cover with mylar. You can use that as kind of a removable cover. If your whole tank is translucent and you need to cover the whole thing, I dont see any problem covering the whole thing with mylar. Mylar is reflective so it should technically keep heat out. What is your res made out of?
