I'm looking into buying a blackdog phytomax 1000 led light. it is a true 1000 watt led pulls 1015 watts. I'm wanting to see if anyone has used this light to compare to a 1000 watt hps light in terms of heat output. I would like to put 2 of these in a 5 x 10 tent and be able to cool with just exhaust. anyone have any experience with these. also are they comparable on yield

Unless your moving to COB LED's. Fuck it!

I read the tech on those. They claim "UV".. Bull Shit! Their bank covers what? 365 - 740 or something Nm bands? UVB (what you really want) is only 280-330 Nm's! Not even near needed or wanted UV banding. High bands into NIR...So what? Emerson effect "alone" is over rated....Why do they point that out as a sales point?

For that money, I might look at dual ended CMH. Still could to far better with single CMH and square wave ballasts, or COB led's....

There are serious growers doing better with T5 HO and high end bulbs that are varied for spectral delivery....

Please, save your money and look into systems that will really make a difference - without lying to you!
There are far better things out there you can spend 3K on in lighting.....

How tall are you running your plants and in what size area?

you can easily build yourself very good led lights based on the cxb3590 or vero29 COBs.
I would not touch a Led Panel which do not have quality COB´s.
Depends on what you pay for your electricity they pay off quite soon.

Holy crap! Those pieces of junk are 3 grand a piece? WTF???

The link below is to a light that would absolutely crush that garbage at half the price.
http://timbergrowlights.com/900-watt-vero29-v7-5x5-framework/

and if height limitations are an issue due to the tent, then you can run the tops of the plant a bit closer to this one
http://timbergrowlights.com/600-watt-citizen-clu048-4x4-framework/
The citizen setup will be a bit underpowered for your square footage, but that can easily be remedied by adding a bar to the center of the tent like this one.

If you were truly planning on spending 6 grand on a pair of leds, then the Timber setups I linked to are well with your budget.

Either go to cobs or quantum boards, blackdog is junk

Agreed, BlackDog LED is junk.
Like the others said above, your best bet is either CMH (aka LEC), or COB's like Timber Grow Lights. A 315w CMH set up costs $400, will cover a 3x3 area, and has better efficiency than that Blackdog. The CMH has UV in its superior spectrum, too.

This is coming from an old LED guru, who's tried multiple LED lights from various companies, and has since moved onto CMH. Its my favorite light to grow with and I've tried everything.
