it's actually cold, full of current and has a reputation for terrible dive guides. it's the only place where regular recreational diver die every year. also, while it may be a good place for spear fishing due to having plenty of good size semipelagics, the reefs are not at all spectacular

The water can be a little cold, the current flowing up from the Antarctic and mixing with the south African current makes for odd water. I have friends that live in Canavieiras who absolutely love the ocean life there. He's the VP of Hobie of Brazil, an avid water sportsman. Having been there several times myself, I have to say the top dive and fishing spots would be there, Porto Seguro and of course Salvador.

Most dive guides suck. Much like a typical Republican, they are completely useless. But every once and a while you find a very knowledgeable and helpful guide.

To call it "pushback" is a colossal understatement

The first law is politics is inertia, followed by money. It took some pretty amazingly bad presidents to finally get the American People pissed off enough to get off their ass and get involved.

Reversing the inertia will be extremely difficult, made even harder by the need to work upstream against a deluge of money and influence. The efforts required will be nothing short of Herculean. This makes the task no less essential if we are to preserve our freedoms as American citizens against an increasingly authoritarian and unaccountable ruling class using their money to manipulate our government against us.
