Great way to decarb for cannabis pills

I've been trying to come up with the perfect way to decarb herb to grind to powder for caplets. I've tried half a dozen ways to decarb a 1 to 4 oz. They all worked but not nearly as well as when I use the herb that I've vaporized two times in a Volcano. I don't have a digital one so the temp setting is on 7 for the two times it's vaporized. The pills done with the Volcano are superior to any I've done in an oven.

The cost of a Volcano is high, but when you consider the use one gets from one - a lot of money is saved.
My first Volcano was used a LOT for 7 years before a switch broke. The new ones have a more powerful motor that fills a bag in about 30 seconds instead of the old time of a minute or more.

This ain't a commercial for Volcano - It's just the best way to go if you plan on vaping much in the future.

Once you dial-in the temp, coarseness and time for a light bake in the oven, there's no reason that a volcano would be a better method.

I prefer to make oil first and the mix it w coconut oil for capsules. I don't see the need to eat the actual flower/leaf material, unless one was eating it raw.

Why not just make coconut oil from the decarbed weed?

Thanks abe! I will give that a go when I get more product... a few months from now. I'm not thrilled with the "pot burps" I get from the ground up herb for one thing. Your way will be perfect for me, wife, and friends... For now - I believe I can get oil from it by slow cooking coconut oil and the vaporized herb for 12 hours???? What do you think abe?

I like to have the oil concentrate to consume straight, like on a toothpick. Also to be able to make caps, as well as, to add to lotion as a topical.

How long to you let the decarbed herb simmer in the coconut oil before you separate the biomaterial?

Actually the Volcano will always have an edge on the oven because besides grinding it fine you are circulating heated air through ALL your vegetable matter. Now matter how you stir it in an oven it will never hit every surface area like the Volcano does.

However the oven should be good enough. But I am always impressed at how potent my Volcano vape duff is.

They have special coconut oil for cooking that allows for higher temps, but I prefer to use regular organic coconut oil.

I'm sure a low temp for a long time, as you suggest, would work fine. Still, I'd be inclined to decarb it first and just get it to bond w the coconut oil and get the job done quickly and not worry about over heating it. Plus w your long-method you may end up w more chlorophyll color and flavor.

I've made butter from vaped herb, but it always had a burnt taste. Granted, my pax is set on high so the duff is very dark.

Yeah when I use my Pax the duff is quite dark, but the Volcano has a larger chamber you don't pack tightly and a screen top. So the air circulates and evenly hits every bit of surface area.

The duff from my Volcano tastes like beer!! LOL So it's a win in my book.

Try vaping it just once. I'll wager you will have even better eating weed then. As a quick decarb process, yours has (beside the facts Annie pointed out) the advantage of speed: less time for the decarbed matter to lose potency. Sounds like a winning technique to me ... PLUS the Volcano vape hits. A friend has this appliance and i am impressed with how well and consistently it works.

Abe is right; cooking it to death is not a good idea. I used to do it that way, but now I only cook for 1 hour, max.
It also helps to bring the oil/water mixture to a boil *before* adding cannabis.

Whatever you do do NOT use the convection setting on your oven. You will not like the results. It is simply not mechanically the same process as the Volcano. Plus you won't like the results and if you hit the self-clean cycle your fail will be obvious to your neighborhood.

Putting it in a bag for containment in the oven will not provide the circulation the direct flow of the air jet through the Volcano chamber provides.

Convection oven, lol so much fail.
