DIY with Quantum Boards

4 boards could do it, 6 would definitely IMO. I believe Stephen stated his opinion that a QB steup in the 600 watt range should be a good match with 1000 watt HPS

Seems like overkill. This fixture would cost at least $1000 too. The price would be 2.2x times a Gavita.

These quantum boards seem legit! I am shooting for efficiency and heat is a concern. I have heat issues sometimes running the 2600 watts of hps that's currently in there
If you have heat issues "sometimes", then chances are you live in a much cooler environment than I do. LED was a no brainer for me because of year round heat/humidity. If you will ever be in need of heating, dumping all your HID may not be the best option because you will get ZERO usable heat from the boards.

Sometimes is anytime after may? Aircooled hoods. No a/c.

So these boards sound wonderful! I have been contemplating cobs but these seem like they would be easier free of hot spots.

I dont want to have to keep the lights too close to the tops; is there any loss from hanging them a few feet above?

How many boards to cover about 40 sq ft around the 900-1000 ppfd (spelling?/correct usage?) mark?

Thanks for the input

robin glad to see your working hard, hope its in making more boards.
I am impatiently waiting to get a hold of a few
got 3 tents i am looking to fill a 4x4 veg tent and 2 5x5 bloom tents
how many boards in each would you reccommend?
2 boards on HLG240, 2 of these will do 4x4 or 5x5
for 5x5 you can also go with HLG-320 and Slate 3 Triple , 2 of those
Slate 2 and 3 should be available end of this month.

Yea we need the exact hour and minute these are dropping lol
QB288 electrical and thermal testing done.
Limited boards and Slate 1 will be available Thursday 09th 9:00PM EST. Don't have much choices of heatsinks, got only few Slate 1 left
on HLG website
If you miss, don't worry, you can catch the next batch with more heatsink options and may be better board prices.

6 boards on 3 x hlg 240-1050ma wired in series will be a fair comp with the de.i would guess it would destroy a single ended lamp setup.about 700w of quantum fire :)
Edit 8 boards and 4 x drivers for a solar fucking storm of photons lol
Yeah - I think 6 QB's would be close to DE and 4 QBs = 1 SE. I get how superior QBs are. I have been an early cheerleader. I just want to set up a side by side to make sure I stomp DE.

This just sparked my brain if any one really had heat issues they could put like 2 qb boards each in a glassless hid hood and have the air sucked over it right?

It would produce like 2.2x Gavita DE and that's not counting the HVAC savings, nor the improved quality of product, nor the longevity or savings from bulb replacements.
A better comparison. So you think a 5 board would kick a Gavita? Believe me I am a QB fanatic. I want to be like the crazy and wild GoldenMau5. The dude has some bad ass QB fixtures. :fire: :cuss:

:-) Hey GrowMau5. I love your videos, fixtures and mouse head like the DJ. However - I like GoldenMau5 with his creepy ass golden death mask and his bitchin QB rigs. His mask gives me nightmares.

Holy Sweet Motherplant!! My very first post on RIU and I get a reply with advice from the one, the only Growmau5!

Honest, my man, I am humbled and very honored. You really know your stuff. Thanks for the advice. So the HLG 320h-c2800 it is.

I am planning to set up later in the year, and am reading, reading, reading. I wish I had studied this hard in school...but then again, they weren't offering a subject I found this fascinating.

This will be my first grow, and I am determined to make it a good one, so I am availing myself of the experience and wisdom so generously shared by the experienced members of this site.

I thank you all.
