hi . just starting with my 1st set up only small 3ftx3ftx5ft. 400watt hps light 4 inch exhaust fan and a 9 inch circulation fan rotating. . have bought a thermostat that does humidity also . I've put it all on to run and find its reading 32.9c..91.f and don't seem to get my temp down anymore iv left vent open and the top hole. ..no plants in yet as I want it right before they go in.. when I open the tent it feels warm but not majorly hot. my lights up at the highest point..iv hung the thermometer at half way point but wonder if the plastic housing is causing the high reading ..I have 3 white widow seeds in germination and plan to pot in 11ltr pots. with it being a small set up I only want to do 3 plants to start. I plant on doing the lst method by bending and tieing the main stem over to gain more up right colons . better yield yet keep plant height to a minimum .. any info wold be fantastic . I'm also in the UK so weather ain't so great

Your gonna have high temps from hps, you might want to buy a cool tube that will help good luck cheers

If you get a "blast" of heat each time you open tent/door - your temp are a bit to high. Gowing method > what you are doing is mainlining/manifold plant training method - this will add an extra month to your veg time. sounds OK - keep infotmed

Another promotion of a cool tube with a fan pulling the air through it and out of the tent. My closet dropped an average of 10 degrees since hooking up the fan and duct to my 400w HID.

yes I've looked into a cool tube .thanks I'll keep u posted . 2 of my 3 seeds have popped and are about 3 inch at the moment . I'm also fitting the works of an extractor fan from a cooker hood into the top of the tent today and venting it out . see what happens . it's all trial and error at the moment . if I can get temperature down 5 degree will be better . I believe white widow is a hardy plant to start off with

Did you say you were leaving a port open at the top? If so, close it.
Force the cooler air from the bottom to be sucked to the top.

yes I left top port open to help disperse heat from the light I have rear vent open and also a 9inch fan at the bottom aimed slightly upwards towards the light . I was gonna leave top port open while lights are on and totally close everything when lights are out .. as said I have not put plants in yet

Close all vents. You need one at the bottom open for air to come in and the exhaust fan extracting out the top. Also rid the exhaust out of the house if you can. At least to the attic or crawl space.

*I ha8 cool tubes.* ;-)

I once had a 600 in a 6" xtrasun hood, fit perfectly in that tent. Humidity and vertical space was more of an issue than heat. Exhaust through hood, not a passthrough.

exhaust is into the chimney breast. just don't seem to be taking enough heat out . I have my exhaust at the top front so it's not taking the clean air from the vent at the bottom as it comes in my ducting is from the filter going right to left then goes down the the bottom port hole on the left and into the chimney breast. did this to reduce bends in the ducting and less ducting. as when I took the ducting out the top port hole it had 6 bends to get to were I needed it and an extra 2 mtr of ducting. .maybe I need to upgrade my fan to a 5 inch from my 4 inch. . as stated the grow tent is only 3ftx3ftx5ft high with a 400watt hps light.I have a 9 inch rotating fan at the bottom aimed towards the light. I am now seriously thinking the thermometer is taking heat and holding it with it being a plastic body as when I open the tent there is no burst of heat coming out and if I place my hand under the light about a foot it's not that hot

It should be running cooler. I run 432 watts of t5 in a 2 x 4 x 6. Don't open anything extra at the top. Just the exhaust out the op and have the inlet at the bottom.

Your thermometer is heating up due to the light. To measure the air temp it should be above the light line. Plants can take a lot more radiant heat than they can high air temps. Seen a lot of people make this mistake, some with black thermometers, why the hell would someone make a black thermometer?
You other issue is the lack of height, you should of gone with a 1mx1mx2m if you could of. Black orchid make an awesome one which can be picked up on ebay for a real good price. The low profile tents are losing so much square footage that they obviously heat up much quicker. If you can accommodate the extra height I would change tents. If not get a 5inch ruck and a cooltube and you will be fine.
My veg tent ran a 400w hps with 5" ruck and never got to the temps your reporting, that was with bare reflector, not air cooled, it was so well within temp range I ran the hotter air into my flower tent durin lights off to keep temps in there higher and even when both tents over lapped on times it never caused a problem.

First things first though, lower your light and raise your thermometer above the light line so its not in direct light. Close all vent socks at top end and open all vents on bottom of tent. Reset thermometer and take readings for the next 24hours.

I'm in the UK myself, I duct into chimneys, if I can do it with 2200w total then you can too. Be sure your chimney is not capped off for obvious reasons!
Best of luck with it.

Pretty sure when you put the thermometer above the light line you will see a hell of a difference in the readings. I would be surprised if you couldn't manage temps even in your low profile tent.
