How important is air?

I am getting my first grow tent soon and the only place I can put it is in he basement.. Needless to say basements don't have the greatest air or circulation.. will this be a problem? I can disconnect a exhaust fan that leads outside and connect a duct tube from the tent to outside air but would rather not if I don't have to..

Ok cool, I will see what I can do about getting good air in my tent just to take care of them but I have seen people get very good results out of closet grows and even tents in closets ( would be even less circulation I would think) and closets don't have any circulation really..

You can do it, but you run the risk of multiple problems. Not so much during Veg but flowering, you want fresh air or at least some type of air moving around the plants. A basement wh no air is a good place to get some nice ol powdery mildew, and bud rot.

Ok, so just for knowledge.. say I didn't set a intake tube from outside to my tentfor fresh air, as long as I have a fan in the tent to move the air and i keep the humidity in check I'm good? I'm new to this sorry..

Its about air exchange as well as air movement.
Exchanging air is about two things, keeping temps at a reasonable level(removing the heat) and more importantly keeping co2 levels at a reasonable level. By just circulating the same air all the co2 that the plant needs to grow will quickly diminish. So you extract air, the air is replaced either passively or actively by air in the room or from outside.
Plants need light, food, co2.
If there is no way to exchange air then co2 must be added but that is a whole different ball game.

Ok cool, so if I have this setup -

Left tent hole from the tent connected to outside air with a duct tube to suck in good air and right tent hole with a carbon scrubber sucking everything through and scrubbing the air, the scrubber will be exhausting outside he tent...

Good idea? For a basement anyways lol

It depends on the basement, if its mouldy or such. If its clean then a better set up would be extract outside and let the tent take passive intake from the basement. Basements are usually not sealed so air would be replaced as its taken out.
Its possible the way you say and wise if you have mould or damp spores in the basement.
Both should work. Main thing is co2 is been replenished. Air is not going stale. Buds will grow and fatten up nice.

If you were dealing with thousands of watts of hps then exhausting into the basement would probably heat the basement up quicker than the heat could disperse. If its only a small grow it should be fine, plus its a bit of under floor heating for the rooms above!

Intake to bring in fresh air and outtake to take out stale air is crucial and non-negotiable if you want a successful grow. Install a dryer vent to avoid suspicion if covertness is needed.

Haven't had this nice nice PM you speak of Cali .......I've only had the kind that breaks my heart and makes me throw my hard work in the garbage .....like the kind you get when you flower in a mould prone basements with no air circulation for example .......fucking hate bugs and PM with a passion ....luckily my prevention methods have done me good for a while .......but we all learn planning ahead and prevention tactics are a must to improve our odds .........I look at weed like playing chess .....think hard before making a move ...lol

Even with all this and years and years of experience ((shit happens))

Sorry didnt plan to double quote you dude .

So if I set a 6 foot duct tube from one of the BOTTOM ports of my tent through a secondary dryer vent as a intake for fresh air and I had a 200cfm inline fan and filter combo at the TOP of the tent exhausting the bad air out and helping suck the fresh air in.
does it sound like this would work? I don't know how well the inline fan will help suck some fresh air in and exhaust at the same time..? And the intake for fresh air is 6 ft long.. doesn't have to be many curves and I can get stiff corners so it doesn't kink

Edit

I can put the intake higher I just figure the intake at the bottom and exhaust at the top makes sense for circulation and so the air actually touches the plants

Yeah the intake at the bottom is the way to go. That sounds like a solid plan. Inline fans can handle a fair bit of work.

Perfect! I will do that setup then.. never thought planning my first tent would be so much lol.. been researching lights and nutrients and mediums and inlines and have to work out the environment for it aswell... not as easy as just buying a tent kit and slapping some plants in there ...

Just for shits and giggles this will be my setup..

-3.3x3.3(square meter)x6.5ft tent
-Mars 2 900w (400-450 actual) going to save up for a cob from timber grow lights this light just comes with the package.. still good though..
-200cfm inline fan/filter combo
-I'm going to grow autoflowers so I'm going to try a homemade "pseudo" super soil because they have short lives and i figure it would have enough nutrients to do so... just gonna take some foxfarm ocean forest and mix some extra worm castings, composte, haven't decided on foxfarm american pride or foxfarm marine cuisine as a all purpose fertilizer and some extra perilite so the roots aren't restricted because of all the extra pewp and castings in there
- auto seeds from dinafem, barney's, dutch passion, sweets seeds to name a few that I'm interested in

If you've got the entire basement, why not set up a 8X4 tent? Once you get it dialed in, you could easily pull 2 lbs dry.
It's unlikely that you'll even get 1 lb out of a 3X3.
A couple of 600w HID rigs would rock an 8X4, and they are way cheap on craigslist.

Awesome. Once you have set a few grows up its just second nature.

Sounds like you have some fun times ahead of you.
I like dinafem seeds, but then most seed companies are pretty damn good these days.

Wish you the best of luck with your grow man, your going to love it!!

I'm just growing for personal use and to sell for super cheap to a couple best friends and family That's it.. all I really want and need is a half pound per grow and I think that's pretty easy with a square meter and 4 autos in 3 gallon buckets.. I'll get minimum 2 oz per plant I think

Thanks man! Looking forward to it! Promised my fiancee I will wait till after the wedding and honeymoon in July so I must be patient! More time to perfect my planning I guess..

I've had several crop failures for various reasons, and it never hurts to have a little extra herb on hand. Even farmers have occasional failures -- and they are professionals.
I won't pay for weed -- which is legal here. Prices vary, but there's nothing decent for less than $300 per zip.
Plus I prefer my own. :eyesmoke:
