Can I clone it?

i got an aero cloner, and its sitting in the closet. i made a bubble cloner out of a small tote and an air pump and it grows roots. aero cloners work, but they're a pain in the ass, the pumps produce a lot of heat so your water is warm, which promotes nasty shit to grow in it, and there's a lot of separate components to get dirty and clogged. if it works for you, go for it, but they are expensive and i don't like them. 4 or 5 day old cuttings off of plants that had started to flower, had 4 more that already rooted good enough to plant

Maybe check the underside of that speckled leaf w a 30x magnifier, and your mother plants, especially if the symptoms increase. similar to mites more than thrips.

That's another thing I'll have to get. I've got a lame ass 10x loupe.

There's very few leaves with the spots on them.

sometimes you can use another handheld larger magnifier in conjunction w the 10x to get more magnification. just squeezing the affected area on the underside of the spots can squish any potential mites or eggs, at least most of em. don't panic, may be completely wrong. you'll know if it spreads further

Environmental conditions could have lead to the internodal stretching. Light competition, or proximity to light, can promote legginess.


No need to fear a little stretch, most partial sativa hybrids have some.

I know. But it's female. And the bud may make for good smoke. I'm all for that possibility.

I consider the other 3 clones to be better candidates. Better nodal spacing. And good leaf coverage.

That stretchy one was ultra compact when in its solo cup. But it was also getting a lot of blue light.

Then I decided to move it into a bigger bucket. And let it get sunlight. That's when it got leggy.

I don't know if my clones are going to survive. Some are looking kinda shitty. The leaves on some are looking a bit... cooked.

The two bushier ones are from the indoor plant. The skinny one in the middle is the "top" regrowth. And has the most noticeable leaf issue. And the other two skinny things are also looking so-so.

Also. There was this white mold looking stuff on them. Is that what's fucking them up? They've been under a 20w 5000k cfl with cling wrap over the top. Poked about 7 holes with a pencil.

Anyone know if I'm doing something wrong? Besides the foliar mutilation...

the white stuff is probably powdery mildew, which is a bitch. i make a spray with about 25% hydrogen peroxide, which kind of holds it in place, but its not good to keep spraying them, it drys them out badly. all that needs to be wet is your rooter plugs, the foliage and the stems don't need to be wet. i'd even try to set a fan so it catches the edge of them, not directly on them but just in the general area. humidity promotes PM, i know its hard on a clone to dry it out but its worse to let it rot. there are products, "no powdery mildew" "eagle 20" "sm 90"...i haven't used them myself, but i've heard they work ok, just hard on your plants. you can do a sulphur burn which is supposed to be highly effective, but it stinks

Went ahead and chopped a few stems. Guess there's no better way to find out than giving it a shot.

The top left is from the regrown "top". And the other two are from the lanky one.

Only one way to learn is by diving right in. I've actually cloned outdoor plants right beneath the mother. Cut, dip in hormone, plant, and cover with cuttoff 2 litre bottle, keep moist. Looking good

They were looking okay. But then they started to go really limp and crispy. I kept their plugs wet. And tried to keep them warm and comfortably lit under a 20w cfl. But they still died...

I'll give it another shot at a later date.

Hey don't give up. I took a clone 12/29. I had it in my diy bubble cloner forever! I figured ah what the heck just leave it. And can you believe it I just put that little clone in a pot yesterday. Over 3 months it took. I just didn't want to lose those genetics.

That's partially why I wanted to try cloning. My current plant is a nice size and over all format.

I'm just going to run some of it right through. And let it go to seed.

just because a plant doesnt express favorable breeding traits doesnt mean you shouldnt clone it. Sometimes strains are stretchier, especially sativa and sativa dom hybrids or even hyrbids have phenotypical expression such as stretching, considering that its showing different traits one could also assume that perhaps other favorable traits might be linked to the increased node space. so to say something like "dont clone that plant cause its lanky" is irresponsible as it could lead to people opting to avoid potentially great decisions simply because they didnt fit your idea of what a good plant has to look like. That said, I wouldnt fill a room with clones of a overly lanky plant, but id at least try flowering out one clone in case theres something special there

He had more problems with that plant in veg than just being lanky it's know as a pain in the ass check the other thread then come back this way chief.....

It's true. That plant has been slightly problematic. It started off as the smallest of the 3 remaining plants. Now it's the tallest. And has also shown some male parts.

I'll keep running it due to the fact it may produce some interesting smoke. But also for the seeds. I didn't mind the bud it came from.
