The real point of me showing you this. Is that it's best to measure that 1/4 tsp by weight! !!!

Give Jack's a call and ask for the specific weight of a tsp for each thing....Or what ever they have in a weight to volume conversion you can math out to those 1/4 tsp weights! Use a scale that reads down to .00 (hundredths)......This way you can adjust by small amounts if you see a need!

For the sake of ease and to start learning simple powdered use.....I suggest you stick to my Citrus and K sulfate formula for a cpl of grows.......It's what the "guy" that grows some of the plants in the pictures in most of the Jorge Books uses.....

I see what your doing there with that mix (not bad either) @orangeade5 but, for the sake of him just starting this out.....The citrus will rock for simple, single nutrient use on cannabis.......

i know i've asked you about K sulfate before Doc and i've got one follow up question: could 1/4 tsp be too much? right now i'm using DG Foliage at 2 mL/gal for an EC of only about 0.5 and i would like to try K sulfate this flower cycle but i want to make sure i don't overdo it (i'm at really high altitude). what plant symptoms would show up for a K toxicity? or would it be best to just go for 1/8 tsp to be on the safe side? thanks!

This is really exaggerated to make a point that is just not true.

I spend $45 per gallon of botanicare pure blend pro. (Not an all salt mix) and it lasts 4 months to produce 1 to 1.5 pounds of dry meds per month.

And I just pour the amount in a measuring shot glass and mix.

If I were to use a 3 part like Kind. It goes up about $20 for the bottles but I would need only half the liquid in my mix from each bottle so it is still under $12 per month for me.

When I did the math on the little tub of jacks citrus it is less complete in micronutrients so I would have to add seaweed extract and it would be more work to measure and mix.

And it is $14 per little tub near me and it would cost almost the same to use.

Myth after myth on these forums.

If I needed 25 pounds of it and didn't need the additions to make it complete it would be cheaper. And a huge pain in my ass.

I just said 50$ per run if you use the cheap stuff (you are saying ~45$).....it's simply cheaper to use dry ingredients. You can get a 5 year supply of dry ingredients for 50$ or less. So if you are paying 45$ per run, 4 runs a year, that's about 180$ per year on nutrients, when you could be spending 1/3rd of that to last you 5 years. Not a difficult math excersise and you will get a more complete nutrient than botanicare, not a big fan of their nutrients to be honest everyone i ever met that used botanicare always had subpar buds, not trying to say you do just never had a good experience with them.

Look how much you get for the price compared to watered down nutrients, you are paying for shipping of water, you can get water out of the tap, get the dry salts they are way cheaper and more concentrated.

FoliagePro is only twice as expensive as Jacks Hydro. 1 tub of Jack Hydro 5-12-26 + 2 tubs of CaNO3 costs $90 on jr peters site and is 12 pounds @ 35% Nitrogen. FoliagePro is $200 for five gallons on Amazon, 51.5 lbs @ 9% Nitrogen. $43.14/lb vs $21.42/lb of Nitrogen. Same price ratio for the other macros and I assume everything else, though Jacks Hydro is missing a few micros that FP has.

So, if you're spending four hours annually to dissolve dry nutes and your time is worth $20 an hour, then you're not saving money unless you're using more than 12lbs of Jacks / four gallons of FP. If you earn more than $20 an hour and/or you consider your free time to be very valuable then your grow has to be a lot bigger. Then again, if you're using more than 12lbs of dry ferts a year then it doesn't sound like you grow in your free time, it sounds like a job. This is why jacks only comes in large quantities, they don't sell an equivalent to the little half pint bottles you can pick up at the hardware store.

Again, unless you're a major commercial grower you're probably not saving any money using dry ferts. This is like the people that drive half way across town just to save $1 on a tank of gas.

Just kidding, real growers mine their own salts using pickaxes and donkeys. Guess what? Time spent mixing nutes is time not spent paying attention to your plants.

Or you would be growing organic from ingredents you make for free in your backyard / worm bin under your sink. Who know's maybe i'm crazy but my organic weed seems to cost 1/100th what you guys spend for hydro nutes and i can't imagine what you must be spending on medium.

Not to mention shaking nutes will make you stronger, just think about it like a shake weight.

I said $45 per 4 months of perpetual growing.

That's 11.25 per month to grow up to 25oz is my record.

And that sack of salts is not complete enough for me and would not last 5 years in my rooms anyway.

In a smaller garden the savings are not worth the trouble for me. And they are actually a small percentage of what you just argued.

And I only need 1 product and a good potting soil. That's it.

If I did powdered nutes I would need a few additives to retain my results. And they cost time and money too.

Also no need for silica in soil and I thought we were talking about jacks citrus. All purpose is drastically less complete.

It would cost even me more in additives.

No need to be rude. I am just showing an alternative perspective that is no where near the cost you are saying.
 
No disrespect but why shake nutes when you can use a blender?

You don't need any added calcium? I see they sell that now too. I would run low half way through flower in my set up. Maybe mag too.
 
Gotta say, I'm using liquid organic derived nutes here. My grow is micro as he'll, but these nutes are relatively cheap, and 3 bottles will finish a few grows, at 20 or less a bottle, it's worth it, for me. I'm probably going to make up some terpinator/resinator too, but I'll definitely DIY that, as I don't see a benefit to paying 20 bucks for sugar.

Yeah, go ahead and start at the 1/8 and go up if your running well. I mean that's the safe way to go.......But a 1/4 tsp is done by many folks I know are up in the higher altitudes already......Their results are spot on....

K tox will show up like a pH problem as it actually does effect the pH......Ca, Mg, Zinc and Iron def begins.....Look for new leaves/growth to be light colored and be "thin"...(start of Ir def).

If the leaves begin to start turning a purple in the margins - your ok but don't add more in concentration....
