After 20 year I need a new strain

I have been growing the same strain Hempstar for 20 years now. Same plant the whole time. After my most recent fuck ups my poor plant doesn't seem to have the vigor to recover. It is really getting weak. I am thinking I am going to have to let it go. Feels like a great friend on her death bed, she sure has treated me well over the years.

I am having to move on and I am looking for a new plant to take her place. I am really not in the know for what is latest and greatest other then the marketing hype. I was hoping for some suggestions for something special.

Agreed with the bodhi suggestion. Goji OG is a classic if you want more of a sativa, Sunshine daydream for more of an indica. But if you read though that bodhi thread, and check his strain descriptions, you might just find the strain you didn't know you were missing!

Do not let that plant go. Nurse it back to health, easy enough.

After 20 years with the same girl, you'll need something extra special for the "rebound". Hot n' heavy with some GG#4 to drown your sorrows, a really nice (exceptional) GSC cross to have fun with in the meantime, and HPK (Hollywood/Topanga Pure Kush) to fall in love with "all over again".

20 years,,, dont lose her... buy a bottle of tiresias mist at amazon,, expensive but it works.. spray a branch of 1 plant daily for 3-4 weeks put the pollen gathered onto another plant 2 weeks into bloom.. seeds will be a feminized and new hempstar..
i grew nirvana's misty strain for several years,,before i knew about coildal silver,, i lost her after a heater went out in the garage i was growing in.. its been 10 years and ive ran hundreds of seeds,,ive lost hope that ill ever find that plant again,, dont lose your loved one

I got some old Hempstar crossed with some Blue god, seeds that I made a few years ago. I am trying to see it they will pop and give me something good. You are right about the Colloidal Silver. Last time I tried that, it worked really well for producing balls on a nice Kush strain I had, and also the Star, but the star though a 3/4 developed male plant showing clusters and clusters of male flowers wouldn't produce pollen, hense the Bluegod / Hempstar.

I think I will take another swing at feminizing the star again, and if I have any luck either restart or put them on the shelf for a while.

I realize I am not specific about what I am after I am like a guy who has been married for 20 years and suddenly finds himself in the modern dating world. Things have really changed . I will look at Bodhi, and Chemdog, and the Gorila glue... isn't that a solvent?

I'm scared to even recommend a seed pack to go against a clone you felt worth exclusively growing for 20 years! Seriously though, there's some gems out there -- you just gata do the work in popping enough seeds to find them like always. As far as Gorrilla Glue #4, it is a name given to an especially potent clone that has made a lot of circulation recently. Many breeders have released crosses with her as the mother, including the ones that have been recommended in this thread. Its named after the super glue product they sell at home improvement stores. I say try to do your best to save your current strain, but its never too late to experiment with some other strains as well!

Time to move into the 20%+ range. You owe it to yourself to try quality Og Kush, Cookie, and Chem varietals. I'd just go straight to Archive and Top Dawg seeds. You'll find enough quality material to keep you busy another 20 years. These varieties are essentially the cannabis market in 2017. I'd personally skip gg4, she's fun for a while but long term got boring fast and had little medical benefit here.

Too bad testing out a strain takes way longer then testing out a new lady friend

Just looking at all the hype so Far I am liking the GG#4 and the white cookies
An old goto strain I had was White Rhyno so I would imagine it would have very similar traits

THe Hempstar was a very powerful stand out example of her ilk. Someone in the Kootnees popped her over 20 years ago, clones were passed around because it was such a stand out plant. I don't know that it was from Dutch passion seeds or the dutch passion seeds version was from her, or if they are parallel.

I agree with the Bodhi recommendations. I've had a Tiger's milk which was fantastic, unfortunately the others from this bag weren't so great. Still good but not great. Jabba's Stash and Dank Sinatra are strains which never let me down. Jabba is very potent and DS had rock hard buds and got a nice purple colour when exposed to lower temperatures. And a fantastic black pepper smell. This is where i would start on the quest for a 20+ year strain.
Yield was best on the Jabba's, not sure how much the Tiger's Milk would yield, mine was a short veg 3 foot plant but it looked good. DS had the smallest yield but I'm sure with a bit of fimming or something they give you a decent bag full.

Apart from that i would really try to get new life into your old Hempstar, I guess you kept it so long for a reason. There are quite a few threads about this, just keep a few plants and try different methods on them while searching for something new if you have the space.

If you can't get a cut of Gorilla Glue #4 you could try some of the Gorilla crosses.
Tony Greens Tortured beans, has some great backcrossses. His gear is available @ Greatlakesgenetics.com . His Gorilla Bubble has tested as high and higher in THC than Gorilla Glue #4 but has a more pain killing, muscle relaxing high combined with the Gorilla Glue high.
Another of my favorites is Red Eyed Genetics Locktite and the various Locktite crosses. Locktites a killer Gorilla Glue cross with a good yield and strong heavy stone. You can find it through reliableusaseedbank.com

Hey man, I was in a position years ago where I had been growing a strain for years, but it also lost vigor, then became very difficult to clone. Anyway, before I recommend anything, what type of pot do you like? Chemmy (my fave)? Fruity? Lemony? Sour/diesly? Or if you do t care about that, you like a stoney high or more energetic?

I have pondering this and it is hard to really put a finger on what I want, with out just describing what I like about the star. I guess like how Otis is doing it I need to play the field a little bit.
I have picked up some C4 that I will be popping later tonight. Looks very different haven't grown a fruity strain in a while

Since they are both American companies I guess I will try both of these, see who ships to Canada,
The short time I have been doing this most recent research on strains and the seed business in general, I have really noticed a shift . Before it seemed that Vancouver was the center of everything , not counting Europe of course. Now it seems like Vancouver is the back alley dealers of the world and the more legit operations have started down south and spread out. One thing that has really broke my heart about seed business, is that Marc Emery's business now links to that sideshow disaster of an online business BC seeds, WTF is with that?
