Newbie grower needs help

Im totally new to this so I appreciate any help. I find gardening very rewarding, relaxing, and fun. I would like to try to do a small out door grow in MI as a hobby. Is there a book for dummies i can learn the basics?

I have great sun on a enclosed patio an would love to give it a try if someone could give me a little direction where to start?

Also are there any good seed stores online or in Detroit MI area I could buy some quality seeds and products from as a trial and error to get going?

DC seed exchange is kinda close to you they delivered to cali fast

Thanks alot Im checking out DCSE now! I appreciate the help. Does anyone know if it is too late to start this year in SE MI or where I could find a dummies guide to outdoor start up grows? I can google things but I feel confident that just because its on the internet doesnt mean its always the best advice ;)

Treat it like a tomato plant and you will do just fine brother. Hands on is best for learning. Reading here and elsewhere is second best :bigjoint:

Maybe you could help me or point me to a link where i can find this? I dont understand the difference of male and female. Is one plant worthless or are they both good but if you wanna cross breed you need to do something? Im trying to keep it simple while i learn . I just dont know what to look for or do with one versus the other?

i realize this is probably the most basic stupid question. I just cant find a sticky thread or anything on it.

You want a female for medicine. They sell feminized seeds which could take the stress away for you. The male makes pollen. The female makes flowers (buds). Look up pre flower on Google or whatever you use. There are many good pictures. When a plant reaches sexual maturity (5 weeks old or a little longer) it will show you it's sex. You want to look where the branches meet the main stalk. In that "y" pre flowers will form. A picture is worth a thousand words. The male sexual organ looks like balls, the female makes whispy hairs. If male and female grow to maturity together his pollen will make seeds in her flowers.

Thanks alot everyone. im hainvg trouble posting it keeps saying there is a sneaky link hidden. not sure whats going on but ill try once more. I appreciate the help and direction from everyone.

I cant post what i was trying even when i retype it all. something about a sneeky link. Anyway i got some Berry 47 from G-works and White Grapes from Hazem@n.
