New Beginnings for Massachussetts and I

Just got back from NECANN. Interesting show. Lots of traffic and some good exhibits. If you're going tomorrow, don't waste your time with the track 3 afternoon sessions sponsored by the New England Grassroots Institute ... they have 3 back to back sessions telling you nothing of use in order to get you to pay for classes to unravel the mysteries they allude to. If you're on this forum reading this it's a complete waster of time. Just one man's opinion.
The session with the professional growers on maximizing light and water for ROI was interesting ... and largely reinforced what I've already decided ... paying for sexy labeling, claims of organic superiority, marketing, and a lot of water when buying nutrients doesn't make much sense. Again, just one man's opinion.

Auto WW is doing so great (day 66). Her branches are starting to lean outwards, and she hasnt even gotten all her buds yet...I'm going to look into staking or something just in case. She is a 3.5 foot monster! :-)

Little HBSS (day 36) exploded overnight. I could SWEAR I see little buds on her. (this early??) This is so awesome!!!

They're looking awesome Mom! I think your "just in case" is going to be a "for certain" as far as support for that WW. She's leaning like that now, it's gonna get worse as she packs weight.

You're such a good mom!

I concur; stakes now to avoid tears over broken branches later.

SCROG ... and other social aberations
Yesterday was the day ... reorganize the flower tent, and .... wait for it ......... put up a scrog.
I needed for floor space in the tent so I pulled the home depot 5 gal buckets that were supporting the PC fans and hung the "fan bar" from the back ceiling bar.
I was originally going to build an elegant sched 40 pvc scrog frame, but pragmatism ruled and the hydro store scored a few sheckels for a 5x15 trellis with 3.5" openings . I had a lot of bud sites before the scrog, but now that I've made a conscious effort to expose all the lower buds as well, I've got 30-50% more identified.
I'm still looking at pvc construction for individual plant scrog frames for mixed grows where height and width vary a lot.
Ladies got a trim, light around the stem and lower branches and shared 7 gal of nutes.
First true flowers have appeared. Seems they might live through my freshman ministrations after all.

Interesting issue with lighting coverage at 12" over the canopy.
With 4 rows of 4 COBS the light is stronger with the reflectors on but there are drop offs between the rows. Removing the reflectors evens out the coverage, but also decreases the available light reaching the canopy.
For the next grow I think I may add 2 more COBS and reconfigure the fixture 4-3-4-3-4 for better even coverage. Any thoughts?

Just raise the frame until the coverage is even.

It's a trade off ... I like the intensity for flower at 12" best since I'm only pushing 50 watts per COB so my options are to push more wattage and raise the fixture or maintain efficiency and add 2 more COBs to give the desired micro moles
Everything is a trade-off...

I was curious how useful the trimmings from Friday's pre scrog cleanup would be. After all the plant had just shown its first true flowers and these were leaves from the light deprived lowest branches.
Turns out these plants are going to be awesome ... the canna butter is really nice even though they're still immature.
Guess it's time to start looking for a vape.

You are the second person here to say you were able to get a dose from trim leaves long before flower finishes and the frost is visible. Why do people throw them out? Just grow too much plant matter to care?

Can't speak for others ... I was just curious ... and other than actually drying and smoking them ... which I don't want to do ... it seemed like a good test. The process isn't all that complicated, just a bit messy and time consuming. Having a warming plate on the gas range that I use to simmer rice made it pretty easy ... just set it and come back to stir and add hot water very hour or so. The only surprise when I read the recipe was the decarboxalation process ... bake your leaves at 240-250F for 30 - 45 minutes. Gotta love the internet.
