I have a bunch of seeds that are at least 5 years old and maybe as much as 6+ years. They have been stored in their original bubble packs inside a coat pocket that is hanging in my closet. The closet is a big walk-in that is heated and cooled year round. These are all top-quality genetics that I have previously grown. These are the leftovers that I didn't germinate.

Do you think these seeds will still 'pop' ???

THANKS!

Not trying to be a dick at all .....but this would be super simple to find out my friend....IMO it could go either way ....I've had seeds way older than that germ and others that didn't .......this is the only time I use the paper towel method to germ....basically to see if seeds are still good before I put effort and time into dropping them Into soil .....GL and I'd imagine there good tbh

As long as the room didn't get too warm, you have to figure on losing at least 10% each year........but after 5 years it's all a crap shoot. I guess it also depends on how old the seeds were when purchased.

scarify/scuff them lightly with a nail file or sandpaper, rinse an soak like normal. if they crack plant them, if they dont.... plant them anyways and wait. should b no issue at all. properly stored they could last indefinitely so you have a chance, they werent under your bathroom sink so.....

Always 1 in the crowd. RIU NEVER fails me!!!

I have a buddy who wants them and is willing to compensate me so I'm trying to gauge pricing. THANKS for the WARM welcome though!!!

Well if you trust the guy you could always make the deal off rather they germ or not.....I just have had different outcomes with seeds, that's why I said that .....and I didn't welcome you....I just gave you my opinion.

You won't know till one of you tries to germ them. Try 5 or 10 randomly pulled. If none germ, you have your answer. If some germ, he has plants to raise and a good idea of viability. ;)

Or just give them to him and ask fora qty per plant in return.

50% off current pricing seems reasonable.

If you are confident in your friend's growing skills, you could ask for 10% of the harvest instead of up front payment.

In your opinion what is the 'best' way to store seeds? I left them in the original packs and put them inside a jacket pocket that hangs in my closet. Cool. Dry. Not much of a temperature variance.

Vac packed and stored in the back of the fridge.....many,many years they can stay viable like that.....

I store my seeds in dark air tight containers in the back of my closet inside a small safe ...I actually use tennis ball tubes with the screw on lids and then I put those in a mini safe in the top slider compartment of my closet that never gets opened really ......with one if those moisture bead things for gun safes that plug in the wall to dry .....I just rotate them in the winter ......no issues

I bet yours will be good dude

NEVER considered refrigeration!
Now you know! Wife made me buy a mini fridge -years ago.

Had a grower over and he asked why I went out of the building to the barn for beers.....Told him to "open the little fridge and see for yourself". One of the best "Holy shit(s)" I ever heard.....Most of them are seeds from breeding projects - not yet eliminated from the project it's from...
