About Solutions -- Dissolved Oxygen in Hydroponics http://www.grozine.com/2014/01/31/dissolved-oxygen-in-hydroponics/
Grozine says,
“Dissolved Oxygen in Hydroponics is that missing link to faster growth rates, healthier plants and even bigger yields. Dissolved Oxygen in Hydroponics is that missing link to faster growth rates, healthier plants and even bigger yields.”
Grozine also says, “Typically 16 PPM (parts per million) of DO (dissolved oxygen) at the roots is considered very good. Most healthy growing situations are probably half of that. [less than 8 ppm DO concentration – low oxygen] Double these amounts are possible with specialized technologies that actually dissolve O2 in solutions, rather than just bubble it through (diffusion).”
Now consider this as water chillers are popular when those “big boys” on this forum talk “chilled res water and those DO oxygenation issues.” Freshwater @ 32 F has a DO concentration of only 14.6 PPM DO says the DO Chart with no aerobic plants or microbes in the freshwater consuming oxygen reducing the DO sat continuously.
Of course all water chiller salesman never tells you that his DO Chart does not subtract the collective metabolic O2 uptake of all the plants and microbes in the res water from his chart. Aerobic plants and microbes do consume elemental O2 dissolved in the res water you know. More plants, more Bennies consume more DO reducing the DO Sat continuously when air pumps and air is the source gas.
If you do not actually test the DO in your res water, you do not, cannot know what your DO really is if you are not an expert that can make predictions DO Sat. from water temperature, DO Charts, many claim they can diagnose low DO problems by “reading the leaves,” guessing, hoping and praying. 99.9% of the hobby growers are steady state tense, always looking, waiting and watching for fungal infestations and those dying rhizomes every day… waiting for the fungal crisis to exhibit?
Treatment of fungal outbreaks is by far more popular and accepted than preventing the common low oxygen crisis that encourages fungal outbreaks… and this cycle often repeats crop season after season, you know how that works even when using water chillers, H2O2 and bleach.
