Sounds like something somebody who makes pennies would say. In my state that price is actually low for good Carpenters..
Plumbing 80-175
Electrical 60-150
Masonry 75-125
Carpentry 70-130
That's the lowest and highest I know personally charge for the trades in my area. I was at 95/hr for plumbing for the longest time. Now I'm anywhere between 100-150 depending what area I'm in

Yeah it is. I get paid time AND material.. I also mark up the material if I'm not charging travel time. It's 100% take home pay. Until tax time. But a lot of my customers pay cash
So you have zero overhead? No insurance? No tooling costs? No shop rent? No workman's comp?

why would a plumber need a shop? are they gonna build a plumbing system offsite then bring it to the customer's location?
workman's comp is only needed if you have employees and is not that much either.
have you ever run your own biz, or do you just do welding for a series of bosses who don't care about you?

no shop, do have a garage though.. a good write off. tools, buy them once, if i need to buy a special tool for a job i tack it on to the material for the job.. no workmans comp its just me. insurance is a kicker, but then again, thats just bills. it goes into how i budget my take home money. my home address is my business address. basically everything i own or buy anymore is a write off. so yeah, 100-150/hr take home

i dont advertise at all.. all my business is word of mouth. i dont even have my business on my work trucks. do nice work and people tell their friends and their neighbors.
when i first started on my own it was funny, id be in neighborhoods at a time... from people telling their neighbors. when i do masonry its still the same way.

in my state you cant work unless youre licensed and insured. and you cant get licensed without certs... for plumbing, hvac, and electrical. carpentry/masonry is another story.

Or are you suggesting that people with doctorates are so far removed from "regular" people that it's great that I'm interacting with the "rabble"?
