Barney's Farm Crimea Blue Soil Grow

This was my first experience ordering beans from Dr. Chronic and I must say I'm very impressed. I ordered 10 Crimea Blue and 10 Honey B seeds (Barney's) from the doctor on Sunday night and they arrived Friday afternoon! Stealth was adequate and I would definitely do business again.

Set the Honey B on the back burner for the time being and germinated Crimea Blue using the paper towel method. All 10 showed roots at almost exactly the same time, a little less than 2 days. Vigorous little babies! They've been planted in styrofoam cups filled with Fox Farm Light Warrior Planting Mix and watered with spring water and hygrozyme (about 5ml/gal).

So that's day 1. Kids are sitting under one 23W cool white CFL. Will add more CFLs for veg and they'll be flowering under a 250W HPS. Would love to use more light but the landlord pays the electric and I don't need him asking questions. I plan on feeding Pure Blend Pro and homemade worm castings. I've never used Hygrozyme but I've heard so many good things I will be using it thru the entire grow.

So tell me what you think. I like to believe I'm knowledgeable but I'm no expert and any/all comments and advice are greatly appreciated.

Peace

Hey Z...Glad you had a positive experience with the Doc. You'll see on here that there are ALOT of pissed off former customers. Anyways, good luck on the crimeas. This is just my opinion (and maybe just my superstition or bad luck) but I have had the worst results using styrofoam cups. Anyone else 2nd that?? I planted 10 germ'd seeds into 5 solo plastic cups and 5 styro's and I ended up with only 5 plants....none from the styro.

Thanks for the advice. Never used styro before. What do you think caused them to fail? I poked holes in the bottom for drainage. I wanted to plant them in something smaller than my 5" pots. So you'd suggest plastic cups?

Man, I have no clue why the 5 styros failed and the plastic solo's didnt. I had holes in them also just as I did with the plastic. It was no experiment with the cups, I just ran out of plastic and used the styro. If I were you, I would change them immediately....not for any solid evidence against styro, but just from what happened to me. I'm sure there are many success stories out there after using styro, but not from me.

I'll keep that in mind. I think for now I'm going to stick with the styro since i'm already set up in it. The sprouts are so delicate I'd rather not move them. Hopefully they'll be fine but if not I still have the 10 Honey B's!

Thanks for the advice and I'll post more pics as soon as they start poking out. (hopefully LOL)

Well, so far so good. Still 10 for 10 even in the styrofoam. Time will tell. As soon as we establish a root system we'll transplant into the 5" pots.

I'm really impressed with the speed these plants are growing. The crimeas are supposed to be fast but I just started germinating 3 days ago! I suppose it could be genetics or the hygrozyme. This is my first time with both.

Already 2 days old  and it seems like just yesterday.....

Well day 2 is winding down and we're all looking healthy and strong! It was a nice warm, humid day today (thanks Ike!) and they spent their time stretching out and exploring their surroundings. Didn't do much today, just rotated the cups. Still moist from yesterdays watering. Sox are destroying the rays and I think they're picking up some good vibes from that.

Hit the bong bongsmilie.......and it's a good night :blsmoke:

A week has passed and thought I'd give you an update on the Crimea Blues:

I pretty much left them alone for most of the week. Two of the taller ones started drooping around day 6 and by day 7 they were resting on the edges of their cups. I gave them all a light watering with 1/8 strength nutrient solution (Pure blend pro grow) and a teaspoon of hygrozyme per gallon. This was the first watering since the initial watering on day 1.

As you can see below they're regaining their vigor and I'm hoping for a little growth spurt before I transplant them to larger pots. This is my first soil grow and I'm nervous about transplanting them as I've never done it before. Anyone have any tips?

Hello! I am first time grower(sorry for my English).I start with "ganja dwarf". I use towel method first ,after i put inside soil. After one week, i switch on 400w and start waiting a miracle. But after a few days i have a tall and thin "sh*t". It is a light problem or something else.Maybe someone can help with experience or web page. Thanks!

Look a little stretched, when you transplant loosen the soil by squeezing the pot a bit then just invert the whole pot and give it a light shake until the whole rootball/soil clump comes out. Place in new pots and fill in with soil around the rootball. You can correct your stretching a bit by covering the stem with soil too, roots will grow out of it. After this soak the soil evenly and allow some water to drain out of the bottom of the pots. Move your lights a bit closer if you can or get more. :peace:

Thanks NewGrowth! That's a good idea, covering the stems a little when I transplant. I'll try and even out the canopy from any stretching that occurred. I moved the light a little closer, as you suggested. I have more lights but I'm going to wait for another leaf set.

Don't wait! If you have lights give it to them, they will love you for it! Remember the sun is brighter than your CFL's . . .

I thought they didn't need much light during the seedling stage? I always see people starting seedlings under fluorescent shop lights. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

This is because the flouro's are low heat your seedlings have their first set of leaves and can be safely moved to HID lighting if you have it. :peace:
