Cob's do they have the 1212 chip in them
I'll post another picture of my homemade fixture this evening I was wondering if I could replace my CFL bulbs with the COB bulbs
Yeah, citizen do a 1212 chip. think its a 36v chip. Check out cobkits.com or speak to him one here.
560w of CFL is 40w short of a 600hps( obviously) the efficiency of hps is better than CFL, the heat should be very little difference, provided you didn't have the thermometer in direct light when running the HPS. If you did then your picking up radiant heat from the IR light which gives a false reading on air temp.
My opinion would be that you may be saving a degree or 2 in heat using that amount of CFL but the loss in yield will be huge compared to HPS in the same environment.
I run Cobs these days, used to run 1800w of HPS. Before that about 200w of cfl in a different environment.
If you check out that Quantum board kit, they do a 260w kit which would out perform all those CFL and save you a bunch of heat. It would be more than enough light. The 135w kit would cover your space at a push but if your already running 500+w of CFL the 260w kit would be the better option.
With Cobs you have the world in your hand since you can build any size unit and these days do it at a reasonable cost.
For example
You could buy a meanwell driver 185h-c1050 for $45-$60
5x citizen clu048 1212s for about $13 each
5x 120mm heatsinks for $10 each
$160 dollars total.
You would need thermal paste/adhesive and some wire on top of that. Plus the prices I quoted are from the cheapest supplier I know which would mean some shipping and import tax. But The suppliers in the USA like Cobkits are fractionally dearer and possibly cheaper if your in the USA because of the lack of taxes and cheaper delivery. I quoted the figures above because I have them at hand.
