have a couple of 600's with a veg & bloom switch. what is the best combo for flowering: both on or just bloom on...upgrading to 1200 in the future. much love for your input.

I have seen this come up a few times, can I ask you if you have a rule of thumb for watts required for veg versus bloom (or percentages). Many of the blurple LED grow lights have a switch that either turns half the rig off or all the reds off.

yes. a veg button & bloom button. i use cuttings which after good root they go straight into bloom stage with both buttons on.

It's difficult to speak in terms of input watts because the efficiency can vary a lot from one lamp to another. Vegetative growth can be impressive at light intensities as low as 450-500 PPFD but most people want their flower intensity to be about double that. In terms of par watts this will translate into around 8-12 PAR watts per foot in veg and 15-20 PAR watts per foot in flower.

Since it can be difficult to determine the PAR wattage of some lamps, experimentation is necessary or advice from others who have the same lamps. A good suggestion is to run the lamp wide open during flower. It can be turned down if necessary but as long as there are no issues it's safe to assume wide open will produce the best yield. If you were looking for the fastest veg times and aren't concerned about electrical use, once the plants have an established root system wide open could be appropriate for that as well.
