Why all the arguments over LED vs HPS ?

Why are you so caught up with what other people are Doing? People do and say whatever they want, best to not give a fuck about it.
I'm trying to purchase a new light for my next grow. It's not people, it's myself because when I ask for suggestions on a light... it leads to an unnecessary argument. So basically I'm caught up with myself, as I should be.

You should just run cmh, that way no argument breaks out. Do it for the love of light technology. Some times good comes from good arguments. Like for instance I like to say go DE hps its the best. Then other people, more experience people say wait hold on Mongo thats fucking wrong this that and this watch what happens. Then other people try other then hps and they love it. If it wasn't for all this arguing, how would all these advances of happened? I personally love all the arguing, i love getting shut down by others. Its all just happy shit.

They seem more efficient. I just have to figure out which company would be my best choice.

There's 2 arguments going on simultaneously, and people constantly mix up each other's arguments. My thoughts on each are that:

1) LED is more efficient than HPS. It's hard to argue this when you look at what people are routinely yielding under the more efficient builds and it puts out more light per watt.
2) HPS makes more financial sense than LED in most circumstances, works just as well as LED, and doesn't sacrifice as much opportunity cost up front. You can setup a lot bigger footprint earlier on, which means more money. HPS are still very efficient.

If someone was asking me what light to get for a 4x4, I'd probably recommend a 600W or a 1000W HPS, but if someone was asking for what to get for a 2x4 or smaller, I think COB starts to make more sense.

I think I can get a good LED in my price range to cover a 4x4 or the 3.5x3.5 I currently have.

From my understanding. Hps still provides better canopy penetration than cobs. Where cobs shine is that they're more energy efficient by having a more directional light source. Rather than one that needs a reflector to get half it's light output going in the right direction to begin with. Cobs also seem to emit more energy as usable photons. Rather than throwing out a whole bunch of light in the IR spectrum.

900-1200$ and something like the one pictured.
GroErr grows with COBs and I'm always amazed at what he grows with those COBs. He has Tasty and Citizen, but I think Timber is a quality choice as well. I'm not to that point yet, because I'm a HPS/MH user. I'm going to dip my toes in the water by testing a 100w Reflectorized plug n play 6000k light off Amazon for $50 and a 18 month warranty. I grabbed 2 just to do some Veg experimentation.

Thank you. I'm going to check out his thread. I just bought cheap ones and the vegging went great, it's this flowering that has me wanting better lighting.

Personal choice. I like HPS because I've worked with them before and know they work well while at the same time they have a much lower startup cost and with my relatively low energy costs I can get by perfectly. If I was planning a long term grow that I know will still be operating in 5+ years I would very much consider LED as the costs after the first three years would have evened out and I would be saving money on bulbs and cooling everyday after that.

I'm gonna start running 4 cmh 210 watters, giving 840 watts this winter. Much easier to heat and not use another heat source.
