I bought a 10' wide by 20' long steel tubular Carport for $100 and going to make a green house out of it

Now I'm looking for some 6 Mil Clear plastic sheeting, I found a 24' wide by 25' long clear 6 Mil Greenhouse

cover, here are some pictures from the box, and I found this picture for roll sides for air flow and ventilation

I found a clear green house cover that is 6 Mil and guaranteed for 4 years and is less than a $100 and is 24' wide and 25' long

if you go from the ground to roof, then over the roof and back done too the ground it is 22' 6'' wide so 24' wide gives me a little overlap too tuck under the sides

The carport is 20' long and my thinking is at 25' long, I can maybe use the extra to make end pieces and frame in openings for a door
 
I have been looking at Plastic Farm Supply

That's where I found the 24'x25' clear 6 Mil covers

It would be too expensive for me to buy the Corrugated plastic sheeting

And cover the roof and both sides and both ends

I'm trying to stay affordable or too be honest cheap

The Greenhouse covers are way bigger step up from

The plastic sheeting Home Depot or Lowe's or Walmart has

Its not the right stuff, and would need to be replaced cause of outdoor conditions

The covers are guaranteed for 4 years and are made for Greenhouses and outdoor conditions
 
Nice man, I hope it works out well for you. Any ideas on what you plan to do about both ends and ventilation? Just curious because I've been kicking around a similar idea myself.
 
Well that sucks, the Nursery close to me that had 3 Green Houses one was glass panels

The other 2 were steel framed and clear plastic covers, and the sides were able to be rolled up for ventilation

I used to go look at the Greenhouses, that's where the steel frame and cover idea came from

There gone and it sucks, cause the rest of Nursery's can show pictures in catalogs of Greenhouses or order

Stuff they have no clue how to set up or use or maintain

The place close to me built and maintained all 3 greenhouse and used them all year round

Now I'm screwed, cause they is no one too ask advice or personnel experience

And don't know who too ask on here, I used be active a lot and had a shit load of pictures and threads

Its all gone after they changed formats, and don't remember names any more of people I texted

Its been awhile since, I been on here, maybe some body will remember me

The zippers wont last 5 minutes so I shoe glued a construction zipper over the one installed

One other thing I sprayed the outside with Varishade2

It cuts down on heat and makes it milky so you can't see into the greenhouse

Thanks for suggesting the zipper and links for supplies

I have a Trailer/RV Metal door and Screen door and frame and will use 2''x4''s too frame in the door and 2 windows and frame in the rear end with just windows and opening for a swamp cooler or box fan

I'm making it up as a I go along, so it could change quickly

I need to make some bracing to help with the snow load and support the roof more

You can see Jack one of my Jack Russell's in the first pic

Rip my other Jack Russell is not pictured. they're Family Uncle and Nephew

They will guard the Greenhouse and backyard nicely

Unless u are going to grow in the winter, would just remove the top for the winter...
 
I hear what you are saying, but if I close the ends in and re-move the top and sides the wind would tear up the ends and the sides

Its way too expensive too cover the roof as a separate section and then both sides separately

I'm going to buy a 24' x 25' Green House cover that is guaranteed for 4 years

I don't know how much easy it would to be to uncover and unsecure the cover, then recover and re-attach

Compared to bracing the sections in the middle of the roof with some clear plastic sheeting cut into

4'' inch wide pieces and screwed too the frame to reduce the droop on the cover between frame sections

That will add too the snow load plus still let light thru using clear plastic sheeting, so I can leave the cover

On all year round, I have a grow tent and a veg room and flower room, so I could veg inside and flower in the Green house

I have a exhaust fans and positive pressure for my grow rooms, and use a open wide for air flow

And have been putting off cutting holes in the side of my house to add ventilation too my grow rooms using clothes dry vents that I can close off in the winter and open in the summer

That's the problem with my setup it's either too hot or too cold and the plants are suffering and not reaching there yields

For my efforts and time and money put into seasonal growing and getting shit

With the Carport Frame and Greenhouse cover I will have less than $200 bucks into it

And might not need to close the ends until winter

I looked online and found 20' 2''x4''s locally will need to see how much delivery is for like 10 or 12 of them

Cause I don't have a way to haul 20' pieces of lumber, need 3 for one for each roof sections

And 4 for the sides, too make some thing like in the picture, too add air flow and ventilation

I need to due some research and see if I can find plans or how to build 2 of these 20' long for the sides of the Greenhouse

I could close both ends in, and look on Craig's List and find a used swamp cooler and maybe a small heater with a timer and thermostat that kicks on just above freezing

And see if my luck changes any and get better yields

Done deal

Just ordered a 6mil clear 24'x 25' greenhouse cover that has a 4 year guarantee for $70.00 with Fed Ex shipping from Farm Plastic Supply there in Illinois

Curious to see how long it takes to ship, still need to check on the lumber

my friend grows in a greenhouse...he has a double layer of plastic and pumps air between the layers...now he is a commercial certified organic farmer...grows 5 different mellons...23 different lettuces' and all kinds of herbs...dunno if this helps

I have a greenhouse guy as a friend too. When they put in new plastic, I get some of the old stuff. It's always double wall. That is to help with condensation I think.
