They're smart enough when it comes to their own interests. The problem is that those interests are only good for the top 1% or even the one in 1000, and not for the other 999.

Al Jazeera is the main reason Qatar is under embargo by the likes of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, etc, because they don't like how these journalists keep turning over rocks and publicizing what they find under them.
It's called journalism. It's the antidote to fake news, at least for those with an education and/or an open mind.
