Cob or quantum board for next diy?

Im going to replace a 600w hps in a 4x4 tent and would like to know if would be better to build another cob rig or go with quantum boards?

This will be a flower only light in a 4x4 tent.

What's the benefits of one over another?

If you already have a Cob rig, you should try QBs. That's what I'm going to do when I set up a second tent.

look at chilled https://chilledgrowlights.com/ for some nice diy boards. This is a Quantum Board with Color Spectrum added. Developed parallel to the QB's using Samsung lm561c s6 bin for thw two white channels. 90w and 175w boards or lights and kits..I got some boards and built my own light. They may be sold out already until August.

I'm not very familiar with the qbs but do they get decent penetration for flower? Do I need to keep my plants real small if I go with a qb build?

Also what's the light spread like per panel? Should I be looking at 4 panels for a 4x4 tent?

"penetration" is a measure of light intensity and distance to canopy. cobs and QBs at equal intensities, efficiencies and heights from canopy to deliver uniform PPFD to canopy will "penetrate" similarly

Yes 4 QBs and 2 Hlg 240 drivers for a 4x4 perfectly.

Depending on what hood you have, you could build a COB or QB fixture to fit into what you have hanging already. Bonus points if you're already venting the hood, free active cooling for the new setup.

Huh? I'm trying to replace the 600w hid, not add more light to it

he meant gut the hood and throw LEDs inside of it. if its a ducted hood imagine fitting a flat heatsink so the LEDs sit where the glass is and the fins are up inside with air venting over them

Go with photon fantom, same LED chips as the quantum board but cheaper and better thermal dissipation. Less chips per square inch = better thermal dissipation.


Here's a headband x sour cherry grown under a photon fantom sunboard 240. Zero stretch, ultra bushy.

Ahh OK that makes sense. I have a blockbuster hood, I'd honestly rather keep it because Im sure I'll run the hids again, probably this winter so I can keep my Temps up. That is a very interesting idea for framing Cob's though. It would probably be better than an aluminum angle frame. Thanks

You can also mount Samsung strips from here ->https://mufue.en.alibaba.com/contactinfo.html?spm=a2700.8304367.0.0.zhPnXl order your strips of Samsung identical to QB's attach them to some 1/8" by 1" wide Aluminum flat stock get a driver and call it a day and mount hat inside your hood.
