LED grow light 2 part question

So I am currently using a 400 watt Mars II in a 2.5' x 2.5' x 5.5' height box. I was thinking about upgrading to the Platinum LED light anybody know or have any experience with that brand? Other question while I am it. What would be better one of those in a 450 watt or 2 300 watt lights. Thanks in advance

Platinum LED and Mars are basically the same quality lights. If you want to take your grow to the next level get yourself a nice cob or hps light.

This right HERE is what you need. Don't be fooled by it only being a 200w light. It's an honest 200w light and one that's far more efficient than the Mars or Platinum LED lights. It will be one of the best investments you'll have ever made. If you have the funds, get the 250w version.

The one listed by Danielson is a cob. It's a very good light, but unfortunately they're more than triple the cost of a typical MH/HPS for what in the end is about the same amount of light.

He only has 6 sq feet in that tent. Most hps fixtures would be overkill. Heck, that mars light is probably enough power for a decent grow.

But if you want to move up, you can get away with this kit for $168. It's a single board Quantum build that will run at 135 watts.

If you want to go crazy you can get the 260 watt kit and dim it down.

Did you come here just to bash LED? You could run three of those Timber lights, use the same amount of power as that 600w HPS you're pushing, and triple your harvest. Or run one light and save 400w of energy usage.

The cob he listed is 200 watts and cost 359 dollars. I simply pointed out that you could have three times that power for a lot less money.

The QB board I showed will draw ~135. If you are handy, you can buy the board and a different driver and push it to about 150 watts. That is more than enough for 6 sq ft.

Apparently you forgot about the cost of bulbs every year. Apart from that, a 600w mh/hps in a 2.5' x 2.5' tent is kinda silly.
The cob light costs less if you factor bulb cost and it uses less energy to produce the same amount of herb. If you want to save money, buy cobs, period.

Cob lights are just clusters of led diodes. They are very efficient and because of this, what you would normally use a 600w MH or HPS light for you'd use about 400w of cob to equal the same light output (photons). Since you use less wattage you end up needing less AC and/or smaller requirements for removing air from your tent. You never need to replace them like an HPS or MH bulb and they will last for double digit years. The cost of owning a cob light vs an MH/HPS for 5 years is far less money once you factor in the savings from electricity and not having to buy bulbs. Tons of build threads and grow journals with them for reference.

It does produce some heat that needs exhausting in an enclosed space however.

The one listed by danielson is adequate for the size tent he's dealing with. The 250 would be ideal. neither is triple the cost of what you quoted. A 600 hps would be overkill for that size space, and 400s just suck.

Thank you guys for the info. I must say I am very intrigued by the COB. I am actually growing in a stealth plywood box I built in a 14 gallon DWC system. Finishing up my first grow. The super skunk is getting close.
