I fish in the salt, live bait is always allowed. If I wanted live bait, I'd use eels or bunker. I usually use artificial tipped with squid or used bare.
I don't usually bother with them though. They aren't very good eating and I can't use them as bait. Bluefish make good bait, but we usually catch striper when we want blues. Go figure.

Bass fishing is where it's at. I don't keep them to eat however. Just catch and release.

These things, but the bigger ones. . Silver and black. Largemouth or stripers, they kill em. I don't do live bait, always wanted to try shiners for stripers, heard they are almost a guaranteed hit.
