striper fishing

We have stripers and hybrids . I use bream , shad, and Zara Spooks
In lakes that have them, I've caught shitloads on super spooks. We wait for a boil to happen, cruise up to it and throw the spooks. It's an awesome bite. Love it.
The stripers are feeding on shad in the delta here. One of the best baits you can use at anchor imo. Problem is, its getting harder and harder to find good shad as the whole delta system is getting worse and worse. Seeing boil after boil years ago was the norm. Now, you're lucky to see even one boil while out on the water all day. The threadfin shad population is not doing good here:-(

So at anchor, if didn't find shad, and i'm not dropping down live bait, sardine or anchovies seem to always work for me too.

My favorite live bait in freshwater is a threaded mudsucker. Best live bait brackish water down to the sea are bullheads.

I used to love fishing for them when I lived in Indiana.. we used these..

I time my striper/hybrid fishing with the damn release ( if using my Jon boat ) I'll go bream fishing about an hour before the water rise . Alligator gar and large cats will bite also , you always have to be ready in the swift water . Also the shad are hard to find here now, but they used to be plentiful , the old timers blame the hybrids.

I remember getting into schools of them and when one person would hook up the next guy would cast right along side and boom, double hookup. Like the fish were following the caught fish.. Awesome!!

It's so fucking hot right now the only thing I can catch is a buzz and a sunburn :cuss:
