The DNC Reports Lowest Fundraising Since 2003

You are right, I should also have lumped the neo-Republican in the idiot category.

Do you both think the country is just one big flat monoculture? Idiots

The answer to the question, "is corporate funding necessary for candidates to be competitive?" is: It depends.
Fine, why the name calling? Are we not all humans with a right to express opinions and ask questions?

That's not the question he asked

"So let's say the dems decide not to take money from corporations or superpacs while the repubs still do. You think dems can match them in fundraising?"

The question is can Democratic candidates match Republicans in fundraising without accepting money from special interests

The answer is yes

Special interests are corporations and superPACs. Establishment Democrats are slowly realizing the jig is up; they can't court both special interests and constituents anymore because constituents are realizing how politicians always represent big donors over little ones, case in point - universal healthcare, they can't choose only special interests because then they lose their voter base. The only option for success available is to abandon special interests and only accept direct contributions from individual donors by supporting a strong progressive message and actual progressive policy positions.

The only question in my mind is how many more elections will the Democratic leadership have to lose before they realize this?

How about a progressive message that includes a balanced budget, recognizing that whatever taxation policy we have historically had, tax income as a percent of gdp has rarely exceeded 20%, so some cuts will likely be needed? I'd be into that.

I'd support a balanced budget initiative if it didn't come out of social programs that help poor, old, and disabled people. Or education or medical research/science, etc. I think we should look at where our budget is bloated (defense), and cut that. I would be behind that 100%. Cut things like funding to the DEA, corporate welfare, subsidies for oil and gas companies, etc.

We could balance the budget tomorrow if we did that

Probably can't cut enough from defense to cover the wish list of social programs, so some hard choices would still be required. But I'm with you on sentiment. The military budget process is pretty fucked up from anecdotes I've heard from military friends.

I agree. If we change a few things we can eliminate many different social programs. The corrupting influence of money in politics is the obstacle standing in the way of making progress. Fix that and we can change the entire face of our country.

I like your optimism. Keep up the good work on provocative questions, you are pleasant to engage with. I am off to do some chores, happy 4th!
