Interesting...

Sturgis, South Dakota....Every year, they have a HUGE motorcycle rally there. Normally, 11 months out of the year, it's just a sleepy little town right off I-90 that you miss if you blink. And, as you might expect, just a normal sewage treatment system based on a town of about 6 thousand regulars. Come the rally, the town and surrounding areas (mostly open fields) are packed like sardines and the population has grown to close to a million -give or take a few hundred thousand.

How do you think the local sewage system handles all that shit? Answer: Porta-Potties and Honey Buckets... It probably ends up being the single biggest user of portable toilets. Now...WHERE does all THAT shit get hauled off to? I don't think I want to know!

The drugs in that shit would mutate the plants grown with it into a green zombie army ready to eat the flesh of anyone they happen upon, while calling the hapless victims 'salad'...

I have a septic system and a well. All the water I use is recycled back into the water table, and every 2 years a honey wagon takes shit from us. The shit they take is well composted. We have a very active microbial ecosystem down there.

It always amazed me that communities FORCE residents to use public sewer and water systems. If they ever extend the water district to my house, I would have to pay thousands to disconnect and remove my very green septic system and pay thousands more to connect to the public system.

It's crazy. Crazy I say. Can I say again how CRAZY that is?
If you septic has a proper bacteria colony it won't need pumping.

We just got done renting a backhoe and repairing several tanks.

There is always an irreducible residue. A well-running septic system doesn't need frequent pumping, but not zero either. Like compost: there is some mass that doesn't get turned into carbon dioxide.

Mind you, I'm deducing this on general principles. I don't have specific knowledge here. If I'm wrong, let me know.
