Canada Has a Very Odd Marijuana Problem, and This Is Exacerbating It

Also washing your weed is mandatory pretty much.
Now I'm pissed! Why wasn't I given that memo? lol!
But I can think of a couple of very good reasons NOT to wash your bud, the biggest being the hours of my life spent doing something that gives me very little benefit. I could be fishing instead. Nobody has died from unwashed bud and I haven't heard a valid reason for the extra work. I will remain a member of the 'unwashed' crowd!

Died? Maybe, maybe not (you could potentially die from inhaling living mold spores) but @bict went from a 10 pound harvest to a 2 and 1/2 pound harvest whilst drying last season. They did not wash their bud. I happen to live not far from this person and had the same bad year for mold and we both harvested early due to mold on the plants. I washed my bud and then put it to dry, went on a cruise for a week and lost none to mold.

1/2 an hr extra spent after wet trimming to wash em was well worth the effort.

But if you dont want to wash dont. Its not a huge deal. But remember its an option if you ever need it. Could save you $$$$$.

You could potentially die from drinking water, too. I smoked Mexican ditch weed back in the seventies - and survived. Pretty sure they didn't wash their buds. And it only takes an extra 30 mins to trim? - maybe if you only have an ounce or two. How does water remove mold spores, anyway? At best it masks the issue to make it possible to unload sub-par (moldy) weed.I have only ever lost two crops to mold - I can't justify the waste of time, myself. I guess it's more matter of preference or habit than an effective or 'mandatory' process. A quick google search for "removing powdery mildew" seems to suggest spraying with water at least PH 8 and dry them. As a water system operator - that would make sense. Much like a pool or spa, the conditions need to be perfect to avoid things starting to grow. With plants, you need to control the neutrality in the air instead of water - not an easy task.
It's interesting to hear how other folks grow - sometimes I try something I've read with varying degrees of success, but extra work for no reward is not something I'll embrace.

yep doesnt take long at all. You could easily wash several pounds or more in 30 min.

Its not water..its H202 and then a water rinse. The larger the harvest the bigger the containers. You could just dunk a whole plant in their if you want and then dunk it in the rinse and then hang it.too dry. ( a couple of old bath tubs would work well...mmm). H202 wash kills and sterilizes spores.

Never had Mexican ditch weed. We had the good stuff here as im closer to Asia. From the stories i read on here it sounds horrid, but profitable.

If you grow outside then mold is always on your mind (depending were you live of cause) come flowering time. Just takes a couple of days of good rain in a lot of cases.

I cut out and throw any mold away and then wash the harvest so any mold spores are sterilized. This means i dont have to worry about any mold in the drying and curing stages and the bud is safe to smoke for anyone with any allergies. I was once a person who didnt wash their buds either. In fact last harvest was the first time I did it. I'm now sold on it.

Wouldn't you use two containers when you wash? Like doing the dishes, so you get a rinse?
Would peroxide really kill mold, not just mildew? I'm surprised theres a few people doing this and liking it, but, better than irradiation.
I use 3 actually, but yeah. First is just water, then I use a lemon juice, baking soda, peroxide mix and then straight water. And no, it's not because I have bugs. The buds burn nicer consistently, they were pretty good before, now it's straight white ash. People notice a difference. You wouldn't not wash vegetables you picked. Buds are super sticky too so dirt and dust is more easily collected on em.

It takes almost no time to do this so I don't see why someone wouldn't. It's becoming rather standard practice in many areas as far as I know.

the right fucked up shit people do to save some shwags that's should go in the garbage and people should learn how to deal with issues the right way and not by WASHING their herb with peroxide

Its right nuts and takes HALF of your meds off the plant.
Ask any idiot who tumbles their herb before they sell it...

by the way direct SUN kills mold although I wouldn't smoke dead or alive mold..or white powered mold washed off herb for that matter,,,, id love to see the oil made from washed peroxide weed lmaorotff

cheers oh dirty behind the ears.

Does it change the quality of the effects at all?

water will not wash away dirt trapped in resin. . simply put. bug shit...and or anything else stuck to it.
the peroxide is to kill the powder mold ONLY...nothing more. and its to save to sell not ingest or smoke yourself.

PS

I wash my herb as well...with IPA  get rid of all that green SHIT!

I suspect the only reason anyone would rinse their bud in peroxide would be due to early onset bud rot (botrytis), which spreads like wildfire even after cutting. It's solely a last-ditch effort to limit losses. I don't think many people think "washing" unaffected flower has any added benefit, and I have a hard time believing it increases quality at all. On the contrary. Trichome is disturbed and degraded in the process. The appearance is likely terrible after "washing". Where's the lab testing of washed, versus unwashed? None? I wonder why.

I agree. No point on a healthy harvest IMO.

Washed bud dries and looks the same as unwashed bud. Trichs are not disturbed just like they are not in a light rain.

It's far from a light rain though, right?
In the video its way less than a light rain and in my case its not a rain at all.

Q, How hard does rain have to be to dislodge trichs? I have no idea but trichs are pretty damn sticky as we know. I dare say we lose more when trimming and stacking.

If you use food grade peroxide there's nothing to worry about. There no stabilizers in food grade and I'll be broken down to oxygen with in hours. Or thrichombs are not water soulable.
